Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice steps a little bit further away from the demonic power struggles of its previous iterations, and steps into... a classroom. If you thought high school was hell, well, this will make perfect sense. Welcome to the Evil Academy, where delinquency means "going to class" and "volunteering." Mad-scientist-in-training Mao is at the head of his grade - he's never been to class even once, and engages in all sorts of extracurricular activities like extortion, hero abduction, and a whole lotta slacking. But now he's got a new order of business: Kill his dad for accidentally breaking his PSP, thereby ruining 4 million hours of saved data.

while yes, this game is the weakest title, I still enjoyed this one as much as the rest of the series, and yes, Vic Mignonga, I actually enjoyed his work as Mao, and Laura Bailey as Raspberyl, and Johnny Yong Bosch as the hero, I forgot his name opps, but either way, this game is still very good for what it offers.

Disgaea 3 is better than 5 because it takes a lot longer time to grind in Disgaea 5. Heck, the same could be said for Disgaea D2. Takes a while to grind.

this entry and the first disgaea are tied as my favorite in the series. but then again it's disgaea and every entry is my favorite.

I've played 1, 2 and 5 multiple times. Only yesterday I managed to get a PS4 emulator half running Disgaea 3 so I could finally get my hands on the game, even with lots of FPS dips, missing voices in cutscenes and game crashes. Didn't got very far into it yet, but my thoughts are as follow. The story seems like a retelling of the first game, with the main protag being the son of the Overlord who rejects all things good that throughout the game learns how to love and care for others, except now it looks more like a episodic school comedy anime. I'd say the characters and settings are more entertaining than 5's, but that goes more onto how plot centered 5 is compared to the older, more world building rich entries. I'm very fond of the gameplay. So far I feel that the game is very well balanced in term of difficulty and how much you can gain from grinding in a set amount of time. The assembly now taking place in a classroom, assigning your units, who are now students, onto different clubs, switching seats to gain combat bonuses, participating in school reunions. Those are very novel additions that not only fit very well with the setting but also contribute into the management part of the game. It's a bit harsh at least at the start, but it provides a challenge not present on the other games. Skill combinations look a bit OP but are a very good way to help lower level characters or non damage oriented classes to gain more EXP and Mana. The Geo Blocks are a bit too complex to deal with imo and almost shift the whole game to be centered around them whenever they appear, but I think they leave more room for creative strategies. Recently I got a male archer, aka the Chuni Archer, which is one of my favorite classes in the series now, and whenever I see a block near him I always wonder if it's worth putting him on top of the block to get the benefits of his Evility while denying the movement of said Geo Block, or if I should waste my thief's SP to create a box for him. While the story haven't grabbed me in full yet, the gameplay certainly did. It's simillar enough to Disgaea 2, which is my favorite in the series, so I kinda am bound to like it.

I bought this game on the cheap and it is the 1st Disgaea game I have ever played.... Guess I have to get the other ones lol...Good review..

Are you serious? I loved the story in the first game. I mean, it wasn't good, it was wacky and generic, but at least you weren't stuck in school the whole time.

i bought disgaea 4 used at gamestop, but they put 3 in the case instead of 4. i didn't get to try to play it until after the return date had passed, and therefore didn't notice i had the wrong CD, so now i'm stuck with a shitty game i didn't want to buy.

Yeah Vic Mignonga (hope I spelled that right) is a weird voice actor for me...I absolutely loved him in FMA, but I simply can't accept him in any other role in any other show. Whenever I hear him, I hear Ed Elric. I can't get over it. Which is why if ever I'm watching or playing something with Vic in it, I switch language tracks.

nope, didnt like 3 as much, in fact i had to go and find a full game cutscene playthrough to finish it. i still have D4 DD2 and D5 waiting for me. so far among 1,2 and 3 that i played - 3 was the weakest imo. storywise mainly. main character too.

I didn't like the skill stuff.. you needed to have some points so you can buy them and make the character learn them. Disgaea 1 and 2 did a better job

+christopher calice If you ever played a Disgaea game, you'd see that they like to put LOTS of jokes in their plots BUT the story gets very serious and even dramatic as the story moves on.
