15:54 I'm not North American or Protestant, I'm catholic from another part of the world (so American friends correct me if I'm wrong) but I've read "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine, one of if not the most widespread text during the American revolution, and it is basically religious arguments on why they should not have a king. So yes, I feel the taxation and no representation issues were the triggering element of the revolution, but society was still kind of split between monarchy and republic until religious arguments like these started spreading.

It is but do keep in mind that Thomas Paine was an atheist I think, the reason he argued from a Biblical standpoint was that most of his audience that is US citizens or at the time British colonists where all Christians and had intimate knowledge on what the Bible said. Christianity did build the west, including the US and almost all that we hold dear comes from Christian philosophy, but the US was founded as a secular state.

Hey there! I've been watching your reactions to this channel and I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your perspective. I appreciate how gracious and respectful you are towards the faith of others. I do just want to make a quick case, however, that Christianity is unique among other religions for its basis upon a historical claim. My faith isn't based on arbitrary personal spiritual experience, but because I've been convinced by historical evidence of the real resurrection of Jesus Christ. The only barrier to a scientific guy sharing my faith is a presupposition of the impossibility of miracles. God bless, and I'll be praying for you ❤ Looking forward to seeing more of your takes in the future 🙂

How saul became a Christian was that he was killing Christians then Jesus appeared to him and said stop persecuting me, but no one else could see him just a bright light, and then he was blind for a while

Maybe this is where the elder scrolls idea of the elder scrolls came from. How the moth priests slowly go blind trying to read the devine texts of the elder scrolls. The commoners not being able to read anything at all before going blind.

There is sometimes an attitude from evangelicals (of which I am one) that Anglicans and Episcopalians 'don't really believe in God' which I think is mentioned here but it's just a brinksmanship stereotype. One example that fed that stereotype was the infamous Bishop of Durham in the 1980s. I remember Adrian Plass doing a joke that a failed cake baking attempt was "A Bishop of Durham cake - all the right ingredients, but nothing's risen".

No, that's not what the new testament is. Basically none of the gospels and such have been confirmed to have been written by an apostle. This does not mean it isn't the case, history being an asshole about not giving us all the damn information we want But saying "hey, we preserved their teachings" is just silly. Christians want that to be true of course and many even aren't aware that most of the authors of the bible are unknown, but this does not change these facts. And with that I'm done watching. I don't think this video will be teaching me anything.

Saying we don't know the authors of the gospels is the same kind of ill-informed arrogance that led people to claim that Richard III couldn't have had a spinal deformity because they know better than primary sources written by people who actually lived at the time.
@jonhstonk7998
@jonhstonk7998 11 ай бұрын
@@Londronable I don´t like the arrogance of people who try to dismiss primary sources with revisionism, this goes for EVERYTHING, and as someone who studied not only my religion(I'm Catholic) but also history in general I KNOW you are wrong and he is right. this isn´t a matter of whenever you think he is ¨misleading¨ anyone this is a matter of the fact you hold a revisionist view on this topic and hence dismiss anyone who abides by primary sources and traditional approaches to the study of the subject. Also to add more to this comment: contrary to popular belief the modern understanding of science by average people is VERY shallow, even in academia and supposed scholarly environments (like universities), and the average person is not better educated in practice than the average medieval peasant(I know how this must sound but it is still a harsh truth nonetheless) and the simple reason for that is that while access to information increased the average person is actually less knowledgeable and the standards for academics in general FELL, this lead to a LOT of sudo science and untrustworthy research due to contamination of academia by ideological propaganda(often of a Marxist variety), but ultimately what I'm trying to say is that the modern world has nothing GOOD that was created uniquely by it: everything GOOD within it is a product of past ages or something that was build up from past ages onto now, however, there's nothing UNIQUELY modern that is GOOD, everything that is a unique by-product of modernity is shallow and lesser than what we had in the past and this is reflected on our art, our literature and our academic institutions, beliefs and practices, so with that in mind maybe you´d understand why im skeptic when it comes to revisionism of any kind, specially religious since that thinking that ¨modern academics¨ somehow know better than the primary sources of the insitutions that literally EXISTED and still exist since the period those events in question transpired and were written down on is just silly, in fact in a way this makes people who do that much like the ¨religious zealots¨ they claim to despise the difference is that instead of God they ¨believe the Science¨ as if Science (a method to question and discover things) was something to be BELIEVED IN instead of constantly questioned...

As a pagan i think science and spirituality can work fine together
@miguelpadeiro762
@miguelpadeiro762 10 ай бұрын
Science and spirituality can and have worked perfectly together What can't work together with science is fairy tale stories like creationism, adam and eve, noah and the flood, what is honestly just plain stupid. You don't need to believe these stories happened to be Christian or Jewish, they're stories, what matters is your spirituality and faith in God or whomever. Rabbies in the 19th century were already aware of the fact that these stories were...just moral stories, not actual events. Newton was a devout Christian and Einstein was Jewish to his grave, professing his faith in God in the laws of the universe, which he saw as the manifestation of God, not a backwards idea of a Holy Patriarch in the Sky that just so happens to look human and act humanly

@miguelpadeiro762 I'm an atheist but I don't think Christianity is fundamentally against the idea of science. I don't know any atheist that believes this. It is just that the church values its beliefs above science, and wherever science conflicts with religious teachings, they will reject that science.

@@doktordanomite9105 Polytheism is quite literally unscientific because you view the forces of nature as the wills of Gods. Monotheism is more secular in that it only requires the belief in one Creator God who doesn't need to be involved in our daily affairs.
