Hossu is a tool that has a wooden handle and long animal hair or linen at the tip. It originated in the Qin and Han dynasties in ancient China and was first used to sweep away dust or drive away mosquitoes and flies. However, the Hossu has gradually evolved into a weapon. #ChinaKungfu

The description of the people in the mountains as immortals is beautiful - they live a peaceful life, one that may know temptation and distraction, but one that does not concern itself with the tediousness of society and the structure that is normally forced upon life. They might as well live forever.

yes, also because the character for immortal or hermit in Chinese - 仙 - is composed by 人 - person and 山 - mountain

Bunch of people claimed that it is useless, that it won’t beat anything. You guys miss a lot in this video. What those Daoists practice is not just a physical skill to fight, to beat anybody. In fact, what they try to achieve is to purify their soul and eventually ascend from physical being. A real martial art master in China has very strong ethical codes which forbid them to fight for money, to initiate a fight, to bully normal people without martial art skills. In a lot of cases, even they were provoked, if they can still avoid the conflicts, they will try not to fight. Because once they start fighting, it might cause serious injuries to others or even kill their opponents, which is bad to their mental peace, bad to their soul. So all those ignorant people who try to judge those masters by if they can fight in MMA, forget it, there is nothing in MMA that could attract a real martial art master.

Yes! We fight whatever inside us keeps us from liberation, from union with the Tao. It is also important to not speak too much about it, words cannot capture it. Some masters would say that to fight at all is to lose, others should sense your energy and know they will be defeated. One great master of Tai Chi I knew of could have a bird land in his palm, but prevent it from taking off because he would yield to its energy when it tried to push....Someone of this level of skill could hear his opponent's intention from 10 feet away, before they moved. That is what we are working on. The self-defense part of real Kung Fu is only a small part of a much larger system.

I give that weapon the Bonus Award for Excellence. It can be used for distraction while attacking someone. In Silat and Escrima we have the saying that the body is just as dangerous as the weapon! With swords and many other weapons, we don't separate attack and defense. There are so many dimensions to fighting it is difficult to explain. I have been practicing mostly Taiji and Bagua for the last 15 years.

Taoism isn't the cause. I blame a mistaken understanding of Confucianism by common people. In Confucianism you should value your own parents more than the parents of other people, but most Chinese take it to mean value no one. So, if you can cheat, then cheat. Confucius didn't teach such arrogant immorality. Mozi competed with Confucious and it would have been better if he'd beaten Confucious in popularity because he taught universal love. If you care for and protect other's parents, that will protect yours as well instead of no one cares about them except you.

I'll have you know that that "feather duster" has a proud purpose in traditional Chinese kung fu. It is to separate the grain from the chaff, the minnows from the sharks, the strong from the weak. In other words, that "feather duster" was used to identify the dumber students less likely to survive combat. Anyone stupid enough to choose that weapon to specialize in ... they're too dumb to live. As such, the teacher would encourage them to continue their practice, while the rest of the students (and their community) would know not to waste time on said "feather duster" person. Needless to say, most students who specialized in "feather duster" weaponry did not end up married or having children. Who would want to marry someone who outed themselves as a likely recipient of the Darwin Awards?

@@alvinkoh5556 I am guessing that English is not your first language. In which case, well done being able to read and write English at all. English is a very difficult language to learn, and frankly, I think you're doing great. However, I do have to tell you that, sadly, I didn't understand what you were trying to communicate. Also, for the record, my comment was written as satire. I think the "feather duster" weapon is absolutely and utterly stupid. As is anyone brain-damaged enough to practice it.

I think this in fact mainly a feather duster and they developed martial forms for it simply to train and play with it because it is fun. Maybe it works against harmless opponents but I agree with you, I don't think it's a useful weapon for serious situations.

Could some animal fur hurt you if it was made from wool ?? Wool is heavy so If they made the wool into small twine then weaved it together then attached it to the wooden handle it might hurt like a whip ?? Lol sorry your comment is from 10 months ago
@adlirez
@adlirez 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamjamb123 it's made of horsehair, not wool. That stuff is highly abrasive, and judging from how it's used (as a grabbing weapon to lock around the extremities), it might actually do something given the right opening.
