This is by far thee best whip making method I’ve found so far, like Nick said it’s the cheapest and quickest way to make a fine whip, that even Harrison ford would be proud to use and own.🎉

Great to see both of you collaborating together again. I watched the video then got straight on to making one. Definitely a "bare bones" whip. I made a whip in the past with 2 ungutted bellies but not an overlay but will try in the future. For those who like to save on waste (like me) these are the lengths i used with about a foot (300mm) to play with at the end. Overlay 1st - 21.5ft or 6.55m 2nd - 20ft or 6.1m 3rd - 18ft or 5.5m 4th - 17ft or 5.2m 5th - 13ft or 4m 6th - 11ft or 3.55m 7th - 8.5ft or 2.6m 8th - 7ft or 2.15m Thanks to Nick and Adam for another great video and hope they colab again soon.

Thanks to both of you guys! I became fascinated with whips after seeing Adam perform at the Az ren festival last year. And then I randomly came across Nicks micro bullwhip video about a month ago. In that time, I’ve built two bullwhips, 3.5ft and 5.5ft, a performance hybrid 4.5ft, and a 3.5ft snake whip. It’s a new hobby that my Son and I are really enjoying! Thank you!

dear nick, thanks much for sharing this information. my second whip was a 4ft snakewhip, using your 2018 method, and it came out nicely. subsequently i received my first request for a whip. my go-to is the bare bones (for now) as it is a time saver. i learned so much, making a bare bones for the second time. much appreciated. i hope that the two of you are well.

I love this and have now done 4 whips using this build method. I created a weighted core by replacing the fiberglass rod with a 3/8"x10" carriage bolt fixed with a gutted 1100 strand filled 6" with 3/8 slingshot steel shot, followed by 10" of copper-plated BBs, followed by a fused 550 un-gutted strand for a total length of 52". I then wrap that in the 10 tapered core-strands and the rest basically follows the video from there. Since my handle-core is a little longer (52" instead of 48"), I add-in the core about 4 inches earlier than shown in the video. The resulting whip feels great, is super easy to crack, and still provides 6' to 7' whip accuracy. 😊

@@greghanson-w3d 4. This video started me off. 😃 But I'm a quick study - my very first one came out quite nice though with some gaps and no intentional pattern. Cracks and targets well, but was a bit light because I used a wooden dowel for the handle but otherwise built it exactly as demonstrated. After watching a few other whip makers I started using the bolt and shot/BBs for the core and the results have been excellent. I recently started working on #5 which is my first gutted-strand 8-footer with the same core but a plaited belly instead of just tapered and wrapped. It's coming along nicely, but my hands and forearms are suffering. 😒

@@sonofgeorge8778 thanks. ive been thinking i should add a little mass . my greater question is how to expand the design to 8 or 8.5. would i merely add a bit to each section before adding. also, how to stagger the core properly, any input would be much appreciated.
@sonofgeorge8778
@sonofgeorge8778 6 ай бұрын
@@greghanson-w3d I was thinking about that myself. I was going to make a 6' core/belly, and then just add the difference in inches where each new strand is added in, so instead of 8 inches I would maybe do 10 or 11. I also thought it could be build the exact same way (but with a longer core/belly), and use the same measurements, except go up to 18 or 20 plait instead of just 16. My first attempt didn't work out. I finished the 5th whip and it's great, but I only got it to 7', not 8', so I screwed up my measurements somehow. Will let you know details if I build a successful 8-footer using this method. 👍

@@sonofgeorge8778 I really need to stop procrastinating. I think I'll add a foot to the belly, and a foot to the point before inserting the belly. I just need to hurry up and start my first whip. I braided other items so I have many of the skills in place.

I used this technique to make a 1m snake whip and it slaps. Started with a doubled-up 4m piece and added a loop every 20cm ending in a 10 plait with 30cm of the core loaded with BBs. Used the end cap of an old broom handle.

Almost finished my whip. I had a braided belly I had started a few years ago. So I used it for this build. Definitely should have paid a little closer attention to how long it was.... it's just shy of 7ft without the fall. I definitely had to get creative with finishing the handle. Gutted the ends and laid them evenly. Wrapped with some nano cord, hockey tape and did a grapevine hitch with some type 1 paracord. The demonstrations look a little off but it should crack!

I agree! I am almost done with my first whip following this method, every step was super easy to follow except the braiding. Here is how I figured it out: divide the strands by 2, left and right, then divide by 2 again, top and bottom. Pull the strand from the top most position, around the back and split the strings in half as you go through them. So if you have 4 strings, that’s 2 for each side, braid in between the 2. Go left right left right always placing the next strand crossways to the last strand you braided. If you have 8 strands, go between two as you come around, if you have 12 strands, go between 3 as you come around. 16, go between 4. Strand counts 6, 10, 14 don’t quarter, so left side, round down, right side round up. I don’t think it matters much if you round up or round down left versus right as long as you do it the same over the whole whip. The transition will just go top or bottom depending on your choice. Hope this helps!

This is fascinating... I'm not a whip making expert by any stretch but I've made a couple of whips based off of Nick's older tutorials, at least one of which was a really early one from before he learned that, "some people think that tape in a whip is a really bad thing"... I laughed harder than I should have at that little side comment. I've been meaning to get around to doing one of his snake whips for a while now, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I really didn't think I was going to like the way the cord lays with the core still in, but I honestly don't hate this. It's a little chunkier, but I honestly think I don't mind the extra texture with the color pattern like this. I don't know if I'd like it as well on a solid color whip, but it works for this. I'm going to have to put one of these together and see how it feels. I honestly despise having to strip the core strands out of what seems like miles of paracord, so if this works I'd probably be more inclined to play with more whip builds. Good job, guys. I'm a huge fan of both of you, so it's great to see you working together on stuff like this. Keep it up

Hey nick I was wondering what formula you use to determine what length you need for each strand of a braided layer when you have... 1. The number of braided layers 2. Number of strands per braided layers 3. How long the whip is going to be And also I need help determining how many braided layers I need per whip design when I know the length. And also how many strands I need for a given belly determined by the amount of strands from the overlay. Thank you and i love your videos im learning so much.

dear sirs, thank yall for the fine production work, and for the very good design. i have cut miles of lace, mostly for wristwear and neckwear, know several turk's heads by heart, and have spent years referring to bruce grant, ron edwards, david morgan, woolery, etc. this video gives me surefire tapering and all other details in a format that i'll easilly be able to follow. with my skillset, the only hinderance is procrastination. now that i know i can handle every detail, and will wind up with a serviceable whip, i can press past the procrastination. heavier handle has both advantages and disadvantages? if i can find my large spool of sinew, i neednt order anything. the leg cap is a great idea, and i'll keep it in mind, despite the fact that i'll probably use fancy U2O2 turk's type knot for the heel. hope i can meet yall comeday. i should learn to crack from someone, rather than teach myself, right? (the etymology of the word plait is interesting, and explains the spelling. again, thanks for all the nuance. a fun watch.

Nice. I made one bullwhip with the latest "lastest method " video from Nick (so you have an idea of my inexperience). And I like this video (I plan to try making my second whip this way but with turk's head) but when I saw Adam wrap the whole core length it seemed tedious because of the need to constantly make the sinew strand go around. I wonder if having a swivel where you attach the handle (like a dog leach fastener or some such) which would let you turn the whip around freely would make the process easier.

If I may make a suggestion that pocket is designed to fit a zippo in it, the suggestion is swap out that crappy Bic lighter for the zippo. Zippos are great and are refillable also you won’t get a burnt finger when the striker gets hot.

Example 6' to 8' Strand = 24ft Whip = 6ft 24 ÷ 6 = 4 4 × 8 = 32ft It also works if you want to make a shorter whip. Example 12' to 8' Strand = 36ft Whip = 12ft 36 ÷ 12 = 3 3 × 8 = 24ft Hope this helps
