China is happy to help Kenya. China will build and educate the workers by passing on the knowledge and the technologies so they can work on their own to maintain the system. Learning new technologies is always good for everyone.

Nothing wrong with Kenya using other people's technology to build rail roads on their own land. They paid for it just like all other countries who who are involved in international free trade. Why should Kenya be left out and told to build their own. Kenya is independent now and can now move forward just like all other nation and modernize just like other nations did through free trade. They are just starting to own their own resources and own themselves as a independent nation. Hey! If they work well with foreign investors and the Chinese then so be it. Look how so many countries benefited from the American industrial revolution through free trade and modernization. Now that African nations are coming of age after gaining independence and getting involved with free trade and foreign investment, people want to criticizes them and telling them to go build their own. Strange that was never said to the Chinese, Japanese, India, Saudi Arabia, Guam, The Philippines, Viet Nam or many other nations that benefited from free trade and foreign investment, oh but tell Africans to build their on. Seems like some people are insecure about Africans having trading partners like all other nations did. African are open to foreign investments.....just like other nations. Why should they remain in the so calleds stone age just to prove some point to someone who might hate Africans.

China can build infrastructures on time, on budget and at a fraction of the cost compares to western countries. Lion Mask said: Chinese can build infrastructures 100 times faster than America.

I am a little bit worried about the African behaviors towards China about technology transfer. All I want to say is "don't be too greedy" and innovate you own based on what they have transferred to you. Technology is companies' life base, to ask others to transfer have to be moderate. Please remember and don't ruin the relationship.

Bro, China sees Africa is the future for their economy. Africa's population is booming and is very young. By 2030, Africa's population will be 2.5 Billion with more than 60% under 25. China is investing in infrastructure in Africa because they are interested in importing their goods there and exporting natural resources to China

Well, in theory Kenya is suppose to pay the development project which is ran primarily by a Chinese company (though it hires a lot of locals) so it's not like China is doing this for free. The difference is that normally western companies would find this sort of project way too risky given the scale and the shaky political situation usually seen in Africa. where as the Chinese companies have the political will (because the government is behind them.) and scale to pull this off and is willing to take that risk because they certainly have some political motivation in the longer run. But you can't really make big breakthroughs economically without infrastructure improvement, so there's every reason to take this risk for Kenya. Chinese certainly envision a future that if they can help many African country to grow greatly and become really a lot more influential in the world economically and politically (in a positive way.) and most of them have very positive view of China. it's going to probably do them a lot of good both for their own economy and also for the great geopolitical issues. It is not a huge secret that the USA view China as a potential threat to it's world hegemony and it's not without good reasons. for China to break that hegemony , especially without going WW3 and nuking the whole world, it would need to change how the world's geopolitical strength works and in a way favorable to China. So in conclusion, China certainly has it's own motive and hope to advance it's own agenda, but since it feels developing Africa is helpful to that agenda, it's a win win situation .

Not just resource and product, its firstly about exporting the infrastructure construction capability, which then will be a essential step towards a growing economy in Kenya and Eastern Africa, it can be a win win situation if African do not want to forever live on foreign aids. A huge majority of the project are produced in factories in Kenya, 90% of the staff in this project are locals, which alone could produce a new growth point for Kenya. Roads leads to wealth, it is proven numerous times. Think about this: who should purchase and consume the product China produces if people are still starving and travel with the speed of 40km/hour ?
