Monsanto was one of four groups to introduce genes into plants, and was among the first to conduct field trials of genetically modified crops. Monsanto was one of the first companies to apply the biotechnology industry business model to agriculture, using techniques developed by biotech drug companies.
Monsanto's roles in agricultural changes, biotechnology products and lobbying of government agencies and roots as a chemical company have surrounded the company in controversies. The company once manufactured controversial products such as the insecticide DDT, PCBs, Agent Orange and recombinant bovine growth hormone. Its seed patenting model was criticized as biopiracy and a threat to biodiversity.
In September 2016 Monsanto agreed to accept Bayer's offer to purchase the company for $66 billion, pending regulatory approval.

Monsanto's morality falls into the category of "Neutral Evil". That is to say, as an entity it does not necessarily care about harming anyone. It's all about the end game for them and they only have dollar vision. Meaning they'll happily benefit you OR endanger you greatly; whichever is the case- as long as they can MAXIMIZE profit. They do not care one bit how it affects you, good or bad.

It can be a good thing, the issue is that no one can really agrea on what "organic farming" means. They can technicaly use all sorts of stuff and still be labeled as organic, farmers can still use pesticides and fertilizers, and while neither of those will have an effect on people as long as the product is washed before consumption, it harms the environment and the people who have to work with those materials. Organic farming statysticaly also uses more land than conventional farming. It's difficult to make something that is purely good, but we're getting there.
@sebbi9710

The problem is that the yields are lower. As time goes on, fewer people are employed in the agricultural sector, which is why farmers have to cultivate more and more land and feed more and more people through population growth. The question is how many decades we can still feed the world population in this way.

I am old enough to have witnessed on the news DDT AGENT ORANGE PCB and many other atrocities also in the food industry before the GMO and ROUNDUP AND WHAT NOT. I recommend that people look on the net for the Yearly reports these companies are forced by law to produce. They are extremely instructive as to companies under the umbrella of the main one, their objective for the year (s) to come etc. That is the fastest and easiest way to track down what they are exactly doing. I’ve lived in St. Louis my entire life and we definitely have a dark history of chemical production. These companies would take advantage of people who needed jobs to support their families. They knew they were exposing their workers to caustic chemicals. The government even conducted top secret tests by spraying radioactive zinc cadmium sulfide all over bystanders in low income/minority neighborhoods. Not to mention illegal dumping of radioactive waste in cold water creek. The St. Louis metropolitan area is an ecological nightmare. I actually work in the former DOW chemical building where they’d process uranium metal rod for the Manhattan project. The EPA claims everything is safe but i find it very hard to believe. I’ve heard rumors that they still test pigeon feces in the building to monitor radiation levels. Needless to say, I’ll probably end up with some kind of bizarre cancer.....

Ah, treat the seemingly obvious, psychologically gratifying symptom instead of the underlying cause. Just like the American medical system! I *could* get into the many examples people of a mass-shooting mindset killing scores of people with other means (Ramming vans through public squares, arson, explosives, and the list goes on). But okay. I'll humor you. Let's say that tomorrow, a bill passed congress and was signed into law banning any and all firearms. What do you do about all the guns already in public hands? Let's say that you throw police at these newly made criminals and get a lot of police and otherwise law abiding civilians killed taking guns out of the hands of people who weren't ever going to hurt someone. What do you do about people simply manufacturing firearms? (It's far easier than you'd think. Australian biker gangs are getting caught manufacturing highly effective submachine guns in their garages). What do you do about people using other means to project a big, hurty chunk of lead at people other than the ignition of nitrocellulose? what do you do about all the people who were career criminals already and laughed in the face of this big gun roundup of yours?

Also "The Guardian" dated 2/13/2013 "Monsanto sued small farmers to protect seed patents, report says This article is more than 9 years old Agricultural giant has won more than $23m from its targets, but one case is being heard at Supreme Court this month."
