Sister Allison Harrison, deepest thanks to you & Elder Mr. Cha Cha Ben for this powerful, deeply valuable information/wisdom. I'm a Ghanaian woman in the U.S. I told a dear Jamaican big sister of inexplicable experiences I've had related to music and drumming. She said it sounded like Myal, which I'd done only briefly read about. Divine blessings to you both for honouring, preserving & archiving/documenting our ancient, sacred ways. 🙌🏿❤

I’m confused. I thought myal and kumina were a separate practice. So was myal practice before kumina and they just use the term myal in there practice? I’ve been trying to do research but it’s been hard to find information Also are they both closed practices?

Great questions. Kumina is the practice with drumming, singing and dancing. During the Kumina, a connection of the spirits with humans may happen and that is what is called the Myal. There are other practices outside of Kumina where the Myal can be experienced but for Kumina, Myal can happen during the practice.
