There is a phone call between Charles Vallow and the life insurance company floating around the Internet. Lori had gotten someone (most likely Alex) to call the insurance company posing as Charles to put a password on the account so that Charles COULDN’T CHANGE his beneficiary. He spent an enormous amount of time trying to convince the insurance company that he was who he said he was, and that someone was making changes to his insurance behind his back. If you can find the clip, it’ll make your blood run cold. Poor Charles. Fortunately, he was able to get it straightened out so Lori didn’t get to profit from his death.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have heard that for well known cases such as this one, they try to pick jurors who know little to nothing about the case in order to not already have perceived biases. That way, even for heinous crimes like this, there is a fair trial.

@@aznmochibunny You are right. Having watched several jurors give details of how they were appointed, there was no doubt that they didn't know about the case in advance. I came to the realisation that they were all shocked by what they subsequently learned. It will take time for healing to happen.

Having followed this convoluted story for the past 4 years I still learn new things. I didn’t realize that to be one of the 144k you couldn’t have minor children. A Chad revelation I believe, that conveniently helped him. It explains why the Melanies essentially gave up custody up their children and Mel P was on the verge of taking hers out.

Prior took the paintball scenario to the illogical scenario of Chad being the target. What? Alex attempted to shoot Chad with a paintball gun? Nope. If Chad was the target - he wasn't - it was a real gun. It was a failed attempt to kill Tammy.

What I gleaned from this case after following this for a long time, was that Lori was constantly asking Chad about the kids' light/dark levels; to me in a way that showed she was really ready for the kids to be gone and was on the edge of her seat for when Chad finally gave the go ahead.

@joannemcclellan4565 yup. I just wonder why she didn't just give JJ back to Kay, but maybe it was a pride/cruelty thing. Her own pride getting damaged by admitting she couldn't do it anymore, and cruelty in wanting to cause Kay pain. I guess her disorder could have influenced it a bit too, making a part of her really think the kids's spirit were gone, but you can create new neurological pathways in your brain from the choices you make.

I was drawn to watch the entire trial. What started as a desire to know more, ended in watching daily. Cults are dangerous, and Chad's cult was lethal. His complete lack of emotions was staggering. I was reduced to tears at times, and I'm neither an American or an LDS member. I've been against the Death Penalty for years, but felt nothing when Chad was handed that sentence. I just hope the LDS leaders tackle the major issues within their flock.

I recommend the book "When the Moon Turns to Blood" written by Leah Sottille. Published in June 2022 before the trials, the book serves as an excellent prologue. I re-listened to the book this past weekend after the guilty and death penalty verdicts in Chad's trial.

She can fill you in on the prepper community, the preparing a people group, and Julie Rowe. Julie Rowe has her own cult and spawned Chad and his cult. She is nuts, has broken up many families, and also talks about previous lives, and people being married in previous lives. These light and dark concepts seem to be very prevalent in the prepper Mormon communities. And even with this case and the murders people still believe this stuff.

Lori DID think her children were okay because they were in "heaven" or whatever LDS calls it. They were happy, Kallie was free of pain, JJ was so busy and happy. Lori is mentally ill. Chad is just evil. Chad told Lori that he could "text" them and they and Alex were fine and happy. Religion plays WAY to big of a roll in most wars, family problems, and National Problems. The only good thing about religion is that it MAY give people dying some hope that there is something else for them to look forward to.

Julie Rowe being crazy is not subjective. She is insane. This is not a matter of opinion. There are videos of her snarling, growling, and foaming at the mouth before proceeding to spout of a mixture of scriptures and threats against people who dislike her. She filmed herself acting this way and posted it. She also tried to disguise herself and sneak into the courtroom during Chad's trial. She was under subpoena so she was barred from hearing testimony, so she tried to sneak in and the bailiffs caught her and escorted her out of the building.

They have interviewed so many people involved with the case. Lauren was in court everyday during both trials. Lori clearly is in this delusional state. Chad was the mastermind who manipulated her and anyone who would listen to him. It’s because of this case that I became so interested in the beliefs of the LDS and the FLDS. That’s how I found Mormon Stories Podcast then your channel and Cults to Consciousness. Just to learn the beliefs and how much of this was made up. Love your show! Happy that Sam was able to get away from Warren Jeffs and you guys found one another.even though the LDS church doesn’t sound too crazy I’m glad you still questioned things that didn’t add up. This was also around the time that the mormon dentist killed his wife, and it got me soooo curious why it seems that there are a lot of mormons who just happen to commit murder...but I wasn't able to find a lot of information to back that up. They suffered too. Maybe not to the extent of the (young) girls, but they often were forced into slave labour at a young age, and if they were lucky they were forced into an arranged marriage. And if unlucky they were kept at labour camps forever, or just kicked out of the community, losing everything. And with Sam being one of them, I think this project suits GUIP very well. Regarding the children, JJ was so loved, and his grandparents would have been happy to give him a loving home when Lori didn't want him anymore. Tylee's benefits would have stopped at age 18, I believe, so I don't see much financial incentive to murder her in particular. If you are evil enough to murder a child, you certainly don't mind stealing from Social Security, but I pause at the idea of "incentive" for murder. Maybe that money was just a happy but inconsequential bonus for the psychos. But certainly they would rather murder their spouses than lose half of the estates to divorces. And there's the life insurance.

I strongly suggest Lauren Mathias and her husband Dr. John Mathias with Hidden True Crime. Theyve been following this case from early 2020. Chad deemed Tammy, Tylee and JJ obstacles to he and Lori being together. Consequently the light/dark, zombies, their deaths and monies being collected. Of course Charles was an obstacle but he was willing to divorce Lori, maybe not on their timeline! Im not certain. And she wouldnt have received the $1M payout she expected! (Good job Charles!) Just a recommendation from all of the rabbit holes ive chased, lol!

It’s terrible that no one believed Charles, but I don’t really blame them. To an outsider, Charles sounds like the crazy one. At face value, it really does seem like a husband snapped, and a brother defended his sister. Domestic incidents are complicated. Who would have fathomed, at that time, that they were systematically exterminating anyone who threatened their little cult. Your brain doesn’t go there naturally, it’s too bizarre. I do think they failed at properly investigating Tammy’s death, though.

I get not believe him at first, but after he died, they did nothing. Her brother even called the police with his concerns about Charles' death. They ignored it.

Didn’t Chad predict that the times were in July 2020?I think they thought they would be in heaven with her good friend Tammy, and the kids, who are hard working. Lori didn’t mention if Charles came to her, but we heard Chad got texts from Alex after he died…

Why didn’t Lori send Tylee to take JJ since she was so worried about getting JJ away.

I personally believe killing JJ was to get revenge on Kay Woodcock since Charles left his life insurance policy to her instead of Lori.

Right! Each person murdered had an expected cash payoff. Charles had changed the beneficiary & Lori was pissed!! Tammy's coverage had just been increased & both children's SS payments were transferred by Lori to her bank account as soon ad they were killed. I wonder if Melanie's kids had some kind of insurance coverage?

Doesn't the founding of the LDS church have a very sketchy foundation? I think if the members of the LDS really looked into the founding they would run away in the opposite direction. If the root is bad the whole tree is bad. Chad had visions, Julie Rowe had visions and made their own religion just like Joseph Smith did. That's what you get when you follow a man made religion. I hope you two investigate and get to the very root of the problem.
