A takeaway from what I went through with my marriage, divorce ,and counseling is that if you are a nurturing person like Tammy and myself there is a tendency for what is called character disorder people now to be attracted to you. And when you realize there is a problem and start to pull away that is when it becomes dangerous. The very first thing he did was move her away from her family. She was spending more time away from home with her activities. Then there is a splitting up of the assets when you go through a divorce. anybody that is nurturing needs to really get to know your potential mate really well because according to my psychologist we seem to draw them to us. I did notice yesterday when Emma was on the stand that she first told Prior that she wasn't good with directions when prior asked her which direction was her house from her daddy's house. She commented she wasn't good with directions so how did she know to look up south SW winds if she had stayed earlier she wasn't good with directions. She lied! You can tell her and her daddy are 2 peas in a pod as we say in the South. I'm from North, MS.

If Emma called Lori, the jail calls have more than likely been listened to. I am looking forward to the rebuttal put on by prosectuion, because they can impeach Emma’s testimony with thise calls with Lori amd Chad if necessary.
@clairefisher31328 ай бұрын
See I was wondering about that! I have a vague layperson’s knowledge of court procedure but I don’t know the rules of evidence. Can the state present new evidence in rebuttal? Like you say, to discredit Emma’s testimony? Or, since they’ve rested, are they restricted to evidence that’s already been admitted? I genuinely want to hear all the jail calls and recordings mentioned or even not mentioned. I wonder if FOIA will get us those. I could never afford to pay those fees on my own but I’m praying some of these bigger channels will try to get them.

Exactly and she was released from her supena so she can't refute anything. Rocky and Lindsey are gonna play them so the jury is 100% on same page with us that she was coached, told what to say. She embarrassed herself big time. She literally said she can't understand directions yet wanted to know ssw winds were going. My daughter is direction confused and she wouldn't know which way the winds went. Some online have suggested they (the cult followers) ate Tylees leg and other stuff bc she was a Virginia. She was burned and hit in that area as a ritual. Was Emma in on eating Tylee?

Keep in mind they focus on highlighting the problems experienced by people who leave the church. That's their purpose, but it is also their bias. They won't really represent what lots of members experience. Just FYI It's like getting a BBQ Restaurant recommendation from a vegetarian. They are honest in their opinions, but it's not representative of the whole picture.

@@E-magineMySurprisebad metaphor. Getting a BBQ restaurant recommendation from a vegetarian suggests no knowledge or experience. All their guests are LDS or former LDS. They are speaking directly from experience and knowledge. Many people have negative experiences in high control religions.
@E-magineMySurprise8 ай бұрын
@pnwlady I stand by my original metaphor. It is about collecting data from different sources that prefer to eat from different parts of the menu so that you get a good understanding of the restaurant as a whole, all the possible dining experiences. *Eating preference doesn't mean the experience or knowledge of an individual the analogy. It just represents what point of view or opinion they are sharing. I wanted to illustrate that knowingly limiting your information to sources with the same opinion gives you a partial view of the whole. You know that a vegetarian is going to give you a review of only parts of the menu, and even though their review is honest, it is only a part of the possible meal experiences. So, the data you are able to collect represents a fraction of the whole. If you treat this data as a representative sample of all the restaurant's diners' experiences, you have prejudiced results. If you want a balanced view of the full menu of experiences you have to get info from diners that prefer beef, some that prefer chicken, some that only want pork, and some that like a combination, in addition to the vegetarians.

Tammy was working full time, doing most of the work for their publishing company, taking care of the house, volunteering at the church, taking care of animals and the yard, and taking exercise classes. Chad spent his days in the church or at the college writing (according to him,) asking people if they could publish their books and speaking at conferences a few times a year. Someone in that couple was lazy. It wasn’t Tammy.

IIRC Emma testified it would be up to the property owner whether she'd be staying in her house or on what terms. And the property owner is John Prior. This opens her to extortion for her testimony. If Prior doesn't like what she says, he can kick her out of the house.

The parallel I see is Heather Daybell told how Chad’s mother was regularly disparaged by his father and their sons, everyone piled on about her weight etc. This I think is/was happening to Tammy, in my opinion this can lead after many years to depression. Being “needed” by your family can feel like you are loved but in reality you are being used. In my opinion Garth felt sorry for his mother being a target but was powerless to protect her.

My hunch is that in this closed family system, Tammy held her kids closer to her to "watch" over them and most likely buffer them from Chad. In a marriage such as this where there is subtle control and you believe in covenants and sacrificing everything for family, you learn to survive in the awkwardness dance in your dysfunctional marriage. Someone like Tammy, in my opinion, probably had a good pulse reading on her family and was trying to navigate through Chad's expectations (moving to Idaho) and giving him space to work out his "salvation". She was probably trying to keep it together, like most LDS women do in a suffering marriage, and "wait it out". In the meantime, she continued to have foster relationships with her family and nurture her children and grandchildren and tried to maintain a sense of normalcy as best she could. Now Emma and Garth do not have their mother to buffer them anymore and they are in a tough position. In an abusive home, even if it's subtle (that look you get when you said something wrong, or you just know to keep things on the surface and don't talk about the elephant in the room or the house will cave in) kids learn to tip toe around the abuser (I call it tip toeing around the drunk) and please them. After their mother died, they are left with their father and NO life skills or emotional skills to handle the situation. No healthy boundaries. And I would bet they didn't even have that great of relationship with Chad--at least not like they did with their mother. Just hoping after all this is over, they can sift through the ashes and figure it out for themselves, their mother and each other.

Interesting how so many defense witnesses testified they didnt discuss this case much w each other. Cannot imagine for myself. But, in my family, following a traumatic revelation of horrific, long term, criminal behavior of a family member there were many relatives who resisted any discussion of the matter....these folks were, and still are, generally resistant to any conversations deeper than daily chit-chat....they r completely unable to face very difficult behaviors amongst us as tho they r hiding from the truth. The truth is so painful that they shove it in a box and bury it. This fleeing behavior has strong roots in my family and I think LDS family dynamics also contribute to this phenomenon where individuals and their thoughts and feelings r undervalued/dismissed.

Also, the Daybell family foundation totally cracked and has crumbled. Despite their "firm beliefs" and "doing everything right" it all came crashing down, and then the adult kids were expected to move on from Tammy's death instantly, because their "Patriarch" had already moved on. Chad literally abandoned his kids while they were in shocking grief and left them to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts alone, and used religious gaslighting to justify it! Out of love and respect for their "Patriarch" and coupled with staunch religiosity, I am not surprised they are showing no empathy all these years later. I think they chose to move on from all the horror, because they are clinging to any sense of "normalcy" they have left. Chad's actions have isolated his kids from other family members, friends, neighbors, church people, etc. The Daybell kids likely haven't even listened to anything else in regards to the case because they likely just could not handle it. They are moving on with their own families and careers, etc. I wish we could hear from the other three kids. It seems almost unfair to not know how they are all feeling 5 years later.
