Chad Smith is an excellent drummer. He plays his style and he plays the shit out of it. Sure there are other drummers that play differently, may be faster, may be slower, but theres only ONE chad smith and i could whatch him for days. His skill in the pocket is great. His personality is unparalleled. He will ALWAYS be one of the greats in my book

What makes chad great is that he has all the success in the world and het he still is motivated to play with joy and musicality. No ego or god complex here. Are there "better" drummers? Yes! Loads! Many even unknown! But does that matter here? No! He is great for his being an example of honest playing irrespective of what anyone might judge of him. I encourage all drummers to always play and want to play, and also to not compare themselves to others. Be you always, you've your own name and own history. As for others, enjoy inspiration from others while never living in anyone's shadow. To summarize: don't cast your shadow on anyone nor allow shadows casted on you. Instead: enjoy Chad Smith's free spirited playing while also celebrating Vinnie coliauta's envelope pushing contributions to the evolution of drumming vocab. Lastly, picture yourself in this history too! You are part of all this! Practice and play, teach and share. Whether world famous or never known, you are part of this reality and you have something unique by virtue of your existence alone! Compliment your inspirations but do not disregard yourself! I hope to see one of you live in concert one day, and when that happens it will be me watching you and not thinking of Chad smith or Vinnie coliauta. Thank god there is gigs out there for many drummers and not just one. Your voice is important as long as it's you honestly and with conviction. Conviction is the art of giving a shit when you play something, and it's clearly evident in Chad Smith's playing here

Need to tighten that snare batter head up a bit. I know some people like that lower tuned sound but it makes the snare sound cheap. A quarter turn of each lug on the batter side would instantly make that snare sound 100 times better. C'mon Chad!!
