Went to a clinic of his in about 2004, at the end, he was supposed pick a couple seat numbers out of a hat to give away 2 or 3 small items like drumsticks and a splash but he gave a look to his sponsors (at the time pearl and sabian) reps who were standing sidestage like “watch me” and he proceeded to throw the entire kit in the crowd, piece by piece. He threw the ride over our heads (lol) then he undid the hi hats, put them together, scanned the room, saw me (14 year old), pointed at me and handed them to me. It was such a huge thing for me to have great hats, they still get use 20 years later. He literally “gave it away” Good guy.

Yeah, i like how they all jam together and the songs start to get shape from those jams. On a side note, I remember in Anthony's bio, Scar Tissue, when he met Chad he immediately didnt like him, it was mainly because of how he came dressed for that first rehearsal. Anthony was like "this guy is dressed like a kook biker vibe, he had weird hair, he just looked very uncool" he is just bashing him right....until Chad got behind the mfer kit and started jamming, crushing it. And Flea just looked at Kiedis like "yep, this is the guy, no doubt"

I know it sounds weird, but to me, the great thing about the drum part to this song are the notes he doesn't play. It takes restraint to not get carried away with fills on a song like this and just let the vocals carry the song. Chad's a true musician.

If you think he laid down the first track of the song, the restraint portion is even mor significant. Most drummers feel they need to fill the entire song, and don't leave space for the bass or other rythm instruments.
@Thegbear Жыл бұрын
Fuck you’re so right, Anthony’s voice is perfect for this song, it’s brilliantly percussive and rhythmic, and so the drums don’t have to work as hard to support it. Crazy fills would make it busy. Instead the kick directly supports the bass, and the snare highlights and accentuates the vocals. So good.

I love how he enters some sections in the 2, if my count is right, when he hits the ride before the closed hihats part.
