Some other tips that helped me that Chad has also briefly touched upon in other mini ramp related videos would be: - Start trying to eliminate set up tricks, or replace them with others. The most common set up tricks would definitely be a fakie tail stall, fakie disaster or straight 50 stall and when you're doing multiple ones of those in a row it gets boring. Try skating a mini ramp with the intention of not repeating any tricks and you'll quickly learn what tricks are easier than others, and what tricks can lead into others. - Get used to sliding your wheels, you can start by just chucking powerslides across the ramp but this can quickly be developed into other tricks; nosestall/tailstall reverts, and then reverts out of rocks/disasters. Once you get those you can start stringing them together in lines for some variation, and the same goes for learning pivot's ie 5050 or 5-0 fakies, nosepicks etc. Fakie smith reverts are a really easy one to learn. Once I learned that trick I learned fakie tailstall bs reverts and fs 5050 reverts in as it's all a similar motion. - If you have a preferred side for tricks on a mini ramp whether it be fs or bs, try learning tricks in the opposite way. For me frontside tricks tend to be alot harder and it took me years to get over the fear of FS 5050's , but once you get them you can then learn all the variations out of it. - Watch older videos, there's a lot of mini ramp tricks that don't have as much prominence today but you can throw in ramp lines such as sweepers, tailblocks etc and they have a whole host of variations. - Don't be afraid to put your hands down, laybacks are some of the most fun tricks you can do on a mini ramp. - Most importantly, have fun - if you think a trick is fun and enjoyable, do it. Once you start stepping out of the realm of standard mini ramp tricks and put your own twist on it you can really start having fun with it.

That was great Chad, learning to pop your wheels off the coping changes the game. Do you think we could get a how to bs/fs air on transition. I'm just getting the hang of fs but bs scares the shit out of me.
@chrisbreakingbanks5 жыл бұрын
When you say "get light-footed," what do you mean? Like what are the mechanics. I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure I'm on the right track. Do you mean sort of hop up without actually leaving contact with the board? I'm sure it is probably intuitive to you (and understood by a lot of viewers), but I'm a bit of a wonk sometimes when I'm learning.
@ChadCaruso5 жыл бұрын
You described what I mean by “light footed” pretty well. Try to picture someone coming out of a fakie manual... they don’t necessarily Ollie but they do a little hop to push it off the end.

Try it on some pavement crack that sticks out like a kicker. You do a fakie ollie motion but your tail never hits the ground, board pops of wheel hiting the crack or coping, it's the same motion (somebody called it chinesse ollie)

Do you keep your feet in about the same spot on the board when you are just doing grinds and trying to keep a flow? Or do you change it slightly for different grinds, etc? When I try to use my intuation from street skating, it's all wrong. For instance, when I try to air out/pop up onto the deck (over the coping), I put my foot too far back (like a street ollie) and my balance get thrown off when I hit the ramp.
@ChadCaruso5 жыл бұрын
My feet basically stay in the same position. Sometimes there are small tweaks but for most of the grinds I would say my feet stay the same

Big disagree with tip 5. My tip 5 would be a willingness to wear pads. I see so many skaters out there unwilling to pad up. If you're learning new tricks, get them locked with pads on, then take the pads off. I learned that from rock climbing a lot. You don't go free solo a climb immediately. You climb it with a rope until it feels automatic, then you free solo. To each their own, but don't be afraid to try--good helmet and pads are relatively cheap these days. Thanks globalization!
