In this video we go over 10 easy mini ramp grinds and some techniques on how to do them. Once you are able to learn these basics of grinding on a ramp it can really open up your skating. It starts to give you the ability to cruise around a park and throw grinds in here and there or break up the monotony of doing stalls back and forth on a mini ramp.

Chad, I'd like to say that as a 45yo newly-back-in-skating-former-hobby-skater I'm loving your videos. 1) You're a great teacher 2) You're very motivating and encouraging, as you make it look easy, but not braggalicious and watching your videos I know you can back up everything you teach and more. Keep it up!

I’m in the same boat as you (44). I never learned any of these originally and am determined to get some real ramp tricks down. I’d love to invest the time and learn it all. Chad makes it seem something an adult can do.

@@spitwicked6188 awesome! But I’m not getting back. I’m fully back. Chad hosted Tanner Jam this weekend right on the very ramp in this video. I competed with the 40+ on mini ramp. And although I was the third place out of three, it was huge for me just hearing the crowd get excited for my kick turns and dropping in. I even did a FS 180 power slide as an alternative to kick turn that only usually works on banks or asphalt. I know my skills aren’t destined to reach massive levels but I continue to move forward and any progress is satisfying. I even got some new learns this week. Ollie up and down a curb. Those were scary for me but I’m getting comfortable now. Keep at it. Be mindful of what you’re trying and that it’s stepwise from what you know. I also break down some things into an approach, trick, and exit so that when I maybe do it right, I also know how I’m getting away clean. Good luck!

@@robertborden2666 Congrats! That is so inspirational to hear. I don't think my little skatepark will host any competitions but in the future i might seek out some. I never could have imagined being back on a board at my age. It's a weird sense of freedom. Good luck to you in the future.

A lot of people say the turn in from a FS fifty fifty is the hardest part but I learned that part first by doing fakie fifty fifty's first and obviously turning in FS. So it actually too me longer to learn getting into them FS. My last upload on my channel was me drilling them trying to make them stick back in June last year.

I do both FS and BS fify fifty's right up into of the platform not hanging onto the wheel edge for BS I don't think I've ever hung up kick turning back in BS and I don't shuffle the truck to the wheel edge like a lot if people do. I think it's because I pivot quite deliberately and tip the board in as I turn so my platform side wheel always misses the coping so I don't hang up. I have hung up plenty of times turning in from a FS if I dint hop enough when I turned.

Victor Bastos for the BS, try to get some more speed and put the preassure on your heels.
@mattstanbridge
@mattstanbridge 4 жыл бұрын
I practiced going over the coping and onto the deck first, then once I was comfortable going over the coping I started to turn a bit earlier to get on the coping. It went in increments, I started slowly edging from about a 45 degree angle to the coping, to eventually being parallel to the coping. Once you get to parallel, you can then start to turn sooner and end up with the back trucks on the coping with front just off, like a feeble. Then one day you get the front on as well as the back. You'll find yourself coming off the board when you start to land on the coping, because you'll feel you need speed to get up the transition and onto the coping, eventually you'll start to regulate your momentum and arrive at the coping with less speed or anticipate stalling better. Also don't be heavy on the board when trying to get over or on the coping, I kind of just lighten the down force on the board, like going off a ledge or kerb or over a crack, this enables the back truck to pivot smoothly onto the coping. Don't be impatient, it can take someone a few hours or a few weeks or months, my son was about 2 weeks, I was about 4 or 6 weeks, maybe more, someone else I know was about 3 months.

@@vabp8985 I had the same problem, just be light footed and turn your shoulders early, even before your front truck gets to coping, that way your wheels will make a powerslide sound and you will end up right on top, even if going kinda slowly. Don't forget to apply pressure to your heels, or you may overshoot the coping. Very easy to learn if you have a small but steep quarter pipe around, mine was basically a vert wall but only waist high.
@mattstanbridge
@mattstanbridge 4 жыл бұрын
Also the smaller the quarter pipe, the easier to learn on. I started on a 3 foot, the 4ft took weeks, even though I could do the 3ft consistently.
