The gentleman narrating at the beginning of this video is Hal Sharp. He recently passed away on March 21rst, 2021. He was a 10thdegree black belt in Judo from the Nanka Judo Yudanshakai (the SoCal JudoAssociation). He is also responsible for quite a bit of the old-school Judo video footage that you find on KZbin. The following link is to the “Black Belt” blog article that includes information on his upcoming Zoom memorial scheduled for April 10th. blackbeltmag.com/hal-sharp-judo/the-sport-of-judo

Great opening with Hal Sharp (who recently passed on 3/21/21). Sharp Sensei captured & preserved a tremendous amount of video footage of well known Judo Legends, as well as published a number of books and an articles on Judo. I am grateful to Sharp Sensei for documenting and preserving these materials, including a 10 volume DVD series with Toshikazu Okada demonstrating Oda's methods. I only wished I could have thanked Sharp Sensei in person prior to his passing. Thank Chadi for posting.

If there's no Hal Sharp, there's no Chadi. I'm beyond grateful for him. Hal deserves his own video.

I consider myself very fortunate to have had some training from both Okada sensei and Hal Sharp sensei. They visited Arizona several times and I got to transport them around to various venues. I recall Okada sensei holding a famous heavyweight MMA fighter (he let Okada sensei get the hold) and Okada sensei was able to make him pat out because of the pain from the osaekomi. He and Sharp sensei were both great men and possessed of great humor and fellowship.

I'm a fan of your video's, great job! There using the old-school tatami mats which were tightly woven straw. We had then in our dojo and our falls had to be spot-on out of nesesity. It hurt.
