Blancmange, (pronounced /bl?'m?n?/ or /bl?'m??nd?/, also known as shape), is a sweet dessert commonly made with milk or cream and sugar thickened with gelatin, cornstarch or Irish moss, and often flavored with almonds. It is usually set in a mould and served cold. Although traditionally white, blancmanges are frequently given a pink color as well. Some similar desserts are Bavarian cream, panna cotta, and haupia.

Interesting, this is clearly a wiki quote, but it's from 15 years ago. The current intro has changed a little: - Removed "also known as shape" - Added "from French blanc-menger" - Added "popular throughout Europe" - Added "rice flour" to the "sugar thickened with" bit - Added "(a source of carrageenan)" after Irish moss. - Added "(the literal English translation of the name is 'white eating')" after "traditionally white" - Changed from "given a pink color as well" to "frequently given alternative colours" (that's a change from US to UK spelling too) - Added a paragraph about blancmange originating from "the older middle Eastern muhallebi" - Change from "Bavarian cream" to "Marie-Antoine Careme's Bavarian creme" - Addition of "Italian" and "Hawai'ian" to panna cotta and haupia respectively - Added "Turkish Tavuk Gogsu, Chinese Almond Tofu" and "Puerto Rican temleque" to the similar desserts bit
