Little-known fact : People don't realise that not only was Python ground-breaking, it was exactly that to such an extent that it wasn't even popular at all when it was first aired, and also caused real controversy - hence there being so few TV series made. It was decades ahead of its time - if, that is, society will ever *_genuinely_* catch up...?!

At nearly 7 minutes, this has to be one of the longest MPFC sketches. I'm omitting things like the History of Ballooning as that is a series of sketches.

I think the length works here, since it's not really one single cohesive sketch, but rather a whole bunch of little mini-sketches they lump together in a common grouping.

Remember when Graham Chapman was playing a surgeon and he cut open the patient and exclaimed, "What a great slit!" hahaha
@greg5566611 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have it right. In this case, however, the entire point of the sketch was to reach the point where John Cleese could say, "I'm much more interesting than a wet pussy!"
@premanadi Жыл бұрын
I would agree if he had said that, but he actually said "wet pussycat." Missed opportunity on their part. But they really didn't do that sort of humour.
@greg55666 Жыл бұрын
@@premanadi What a great slit! isn't that sort of humor? What a silly bunt?
@premanadi Жыл бұрын
@@greg55666 I don't buy the "great slit" thing being sexual. He's cutting open a man. I think the idea that it's a vagina reference is far fetched. Silly bunt: C*nt is a common word in British parlance. It's not sexual when you call someone a "silly c*unt." It's just a way of saying they are an idiot. "I'm more interesting than a wet pussy" would be a direct sexual reference couched as a pun. I think it's out of character for Python, though there could be examples I have forgotten. Anyway, it's not what he said in the sketch.
@greg55666 Жыл бұрын
@@premanadi Right, and if it were just the one you might have an argument that I'm reading too much into it. But the whole point is that if you listen carefully, these sexual references are EVERYWHERE. I mean, obviously they're obsessed with breasts, the idea that that stops when they get below the belly button is just silly. The point is, I think, you are wrong to think it's out of character for them; it's not out of character at all. But they have to be very subtle about it, and that's a huge part of the fun.
@premanadi Жыл бұрын
@@greg55666 I'm not saying there are no sexual references in Python, but something about this particular joke (which doesn't actually exist in the show) seems out of character to me. It's just a bit to obvious, cheap and crass to refer to the female sexual organs for a cheap pun. It seems like the type of humour you would get from Benny Hill. I have a hard time imagine them sitting around the table hashing out the script and deciding on that joke.
