This video tutorial shows me making a modern and sleek sterling silver ring featuring a lovely round Carnelian. The materials I used were: #3 low dome half-round from Rio Grande, 18 gauge sterling silver sheet, 10 gauge sterling square wire, and 3/16 inch 26 gauge fine silver bezel strip. This one includes the basic steps to build a bezel setting for a cabochon stone. As always I am using exclusively hard silver solder, and I use My-T-Flux from Rio Grande. I would rate this one as an beginner project. This video is a bit longer, but is a detailed tutorial, so I think it is worth the watch time. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful?

Hello from a new subscriber in the UK 🇬🇧, I’ve recently discovered your channel and I’m enjoying watching your video content … I like the way you make Jewellery, not always needing fancy expensive tools, my jaw dropped in awe when in I watched you set a small faceted gemstone using only the side of a pair of pliers 😲👏🏽♥️. Not so much a fan of the words”I’m going to do this part off camera” though ⛔️aside from that i’m very pleased I found your channel, thank you thank you thank you😊

Hello Kizzywitch! Thank you for the nice compliments:). Unfortunately, if I include all the prepolishing and final polishing, my videos would be super long, and that is why I made a prepolishing video and a polishing video which show mostly what I’m doing off camera each time:). I will post the links.

Watching this man is like any other athlete. I'm content to watch from the safety of my comfy couch. I'm happy to let him have to figure it all out. lol 😅😆. But one day, I will have to try to solder. One day soon. When I can determine just how much fire I can safely handle. 🥺🥺 🔥

what a cool ring. I just happened to hanging around on KZbin when the notification came up. I fast forwarded to see the end and some of the intermediate steps. What a cool, outside the box design. I admire your unique designs and can't wait to try this one. I think I have the materials needed to make this. I dabble in polymer clay and sometimes I make "stones" using polymer clay and then use copper and brass to practice with the less expensive materials. Not sure why I mentioned this, but maybe it could be helpful for others that, like me, are sometimes hesitant to use more expensive materials when I'm not sure of my skill level as of yet. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing these KZbin videos. One of these days I will have to check out Instagram and share some of my attempts at them. Take care and have a great week!

Thanks Bees! I loved how this one turned out! I wish I could take credit for this general idea, but I've been seeing these sorts around for years, and wanted to try one. It turned out to be an easy project that didn't take long. Glad you liked it!

Oh wow, that’s a nice design. Love the carnelian btw, real pretty in this setting. Nice way to make a heavier band look lighter. I’m in awe of the way you figure these things out dude. I’ve seen them before too but there’s no way I could work out how to make one!! Having said that, I happen to have a small Jade (nephrite) cab that would look real nice in one of these…….hmmmmm I wonder….maybe a few tiny CZs flush set in the outer ring.
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Жыл бұрын
I started thinking maybe some other shaped stones mirrored by the outer ring might look equally cool. You probably could reverse engineer other jewelry if you try Pauline! That's how I usually learn a new technique. The 'Hmm, I wonder how they did that?' is fun to pursue sometimes:)

Oh wow, that’s really cool, Chad, love it. Hey, would you consider a tutorial about making simple letter pendant or ring. Or maybe it’s called initial ring. Just a thought because I’m curious how to make one using an 18g wire. Thanks again for everything that you do. You are deeply appreciated ❤

Hello Mai:). I like the idea of a ring with initials on top, so I may do that. Thanks for the good idea. I did do one on making letters from silver in different ways if you haven’t seen it. Here is a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2nZgKOCZ5alaa8si=0vF4GnbSD-ZdXJ7N

Recently found you and will watch some of your past videos, because this one looks great would love to make it… I’m only halfway through but I don’t hear yet the size of the stone/cabochon you’re using, is that a 6 or 8 mm? Thank you!
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Жыл бұрын
Ah, I forgot to measure it in the video. I think it was about a 7 or 8 mm. You could probably vary the size and come out with some cool different proportions than this one has. Thanks Lorraine. I appreciate you letting me know. Take care!

Chad, what to you do if you don’t want to worry the silver, (even fine silver can tarnish), will tarnish under a translucent or transparent stone? Have you ever used mylar?
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing Жыл бұрын
Somebody else who comments here suggested a while back that putting a piece of Argentium silver behind the stone works well because it doesn’t really tarnish. That seemed like a good idea. Mostly anymore I try to set transparent or translucent stones with an open back. I’ve never used Mylar, but I feel like it may end up looking like those old costume jewelry foil-backed glass or plastic “stones.”:). Good question!
