i work for the same company as that channel 7 reporter who got cued wrong. it's literally a corporate problem. they implemented a streaming system that doesn't always cue reporters properly when they're out on live shots. our poor multimedia journalists regularly get stuck standing with that frozen smile, knowing the camera is running but having no idea if they're on the air or not.

sadly I remember at least one case where a woman was hit by a car, threw on the sidewalk, still alive and bleeding... it was halloween and many, many people passed by, looked at her and laughed... I can't remember if she actually died but I guess she did.

Tbh I can understand the doll one, but I've seen and heard worse. The neighbors in front of us once set up a "torture" display so loud you could hear the pained moans inside my house. To me that sorta thing is crossing a line more than non bloody, hanging baby dolls. That car one though eh...that def could be mistaken at a distance and seems kinda in bad taste but that's just me. I agree the zombie thing would have made it so better tho.

We used to use baby dolls wrapped in fake spider web for a giant spider den display in our yard when I was a kid. I think using baby dolls for a display can work, but you gotta put in more effort than just "duct taped and ripped apart limbs in a tree." For me, it's just a tad lazy looking for an outdoor display.

Yea that one was in pretty poor taste, I agree, especially considering how much it resembled the scene of a drunk driving accident and how many people are killed like that annually. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I'm an f-ed up sicko so when it comes to things like this, the basic rule of thumb I've learned to go by is, if I think it's awesome, then it's probably inappropriate.

I can fully understand the baby doll decorations because I've personally come across a ton of old disfigured baby dolls in a small wooded area by a creek I used to live by. (I'm not joking there were a TON of baby dolls just in the middle of nowhere.)

There is actually a whole island in Mexico that has creepy old decaying baby dolls hanging in the trees and what not. Very creepy but the reasoning behind why is a bit sad. I don’t see too much of a problem with the baby dolls personally but they are creepy AF!

I have a doll that I got from a yard sale that I messed up myself for Halloween. I put fake blood on it and painted its eyes black with the blackness dripping out. I also put a rope around its neck. I use it as an indoor decoration.

The thing is that like with like the crime scene one young kids Trick or Treating are going to think it’s real and could be traumatized. Even with the naked babies. I’m all for Halloween decorations but ones that are scary just are in bad taste. As for that one on the public street in December, that’s just dangerous because if people are looking at that instead of the road or react to it while driving, it could cause an accident.

Had something like the spider web one. The landlord was more so worried about the yard being trampled by kids cause of an interactive decoration we had up and asked if we could put up a different decoration instead. We weren't THREATENED with being homeless over loose spider webs though. Jeez.

Where I live, it's seen as satanic, because so many people dress as "evil" or "demonic" things. That or it's just a "paegan holiday" that they can't let their little angels take part in. My parents' church tries to push All Saints' Day parties on kids instead. You know, cause instead of dressing up like a character you like or something spooky, you can dress up as a long dead religious figure. And apparently gore is not the problem, because I've seen kids dressed like they are being burned at the stake, holding a plate of their own eyes, or being shot through with arrows, so....

I had a friend who decorated their house. They had a gruesome theme, but it didn’t bother me one bit. But other people were irritated by it. She hasn’t decorated since 2019. As a property manager with multiple portfolios I physically cringed at the warning/eviction notice for the halloween decoration. Threatening likely perfectly good tenants with an eviction is pretty gross behavior. At least communicate that it's a landscaping issue with the tenant! If I were in their shoes then I would come to an agreement with them that decorations must be moved on landscaping days. If they aren't then they'll be charged for the landscapers to come out again for their property : / It's really not that hard!
