Hi Charlie, I'm a steam man myself but thought I'd have a look @ this vid, which is great by the way & the ol APT which I always admired. Looks a really impressive model & I noted the ol tilt worked well on those 1st radius curves, (just like prototype,) it would have knocked out any one in the refuges in your tunnels tho 😂 This countries engineering potential was crushed by accountants I'm afraid. Having said said that tho engineers don't make good estimators, preferring the open chequebook technology method to get the job done.🙂 After a lifetime working in heavy engineering with steam (12" to the foot,) I reckon I'll stick with 4mm & me Bulleid Pacifics. Nice to see someone who thoroughly enjoys his hobby. Regards, Dave.

as an accountant I'd like to say it was the press that did for apt-e and the designs were then sold to the Italians.... well some of the plans.... I guess some may of been missed as they've only just got them working (relatively speaking)
@princesendbranchlinemode-yo6fq
@princesendbranchlinemode-yo6fq Жыл бұрын
@@LordInter Not sure what you mean by that as the APT-E tilting tecnology was successfully used as the basis for the tilting trains built by Fiat Ferrovia- the ETR 401 in 1982 leading to the ETR 450 Pendolino, 53 of the tilting class 390 Pendolinos derived from those were bought by Virgin for use on the West Coast Mainline in 1999, 24 years ago (is that what you mean by "just got them working"?) essentially using the technology developed from the APT-E tilting systems sold to them. So ironically the technology is being used as originally intended by British rail but needed the Italians to perfect it, which we would have done were it not for the 'bean counters'.

Hi Charlie - I know this is an old video but I just wanted to give a big shout out to Rapido’s service. I got one of these when they first came out but had no layout to run it on. This last year I’ve built a big one around my basement so finally I brought it out of the box just before Christmas. But darn me the second power car wouldn’t run. It lit up and did everything it should except actually run. So I reached out Rapido and they agreed to take it in. A few weeks later, back it came and I’ve just tonight had her out again and bless me, she runs! They replaced a few components, all as a warranty repair, even though it was bought 7 or 8 years ago. And it is marvellous! It looks magnificent streaking around the track.

I know that this is an older video but it is quite nostalgic for me. In the 1970s /early 80s I lived in Melton Mowbray (of pork pies and Stilton cheese fame) and my daily commute took me through a small village called Asforby (no h). The APT-E in plain aluminium livery was often stabled there at the end of the Old Dalby test track. The terminus track stood on a high level above the village and originally served the ironworks there. It was a wonderful sight in full sun, it was like something out of a space movie and I now regret not taking pictures and I was so sad when it was scrapped and the BR technology sold to the Italians only to return to BR via the Pendolinos I understand. C'est la vie. Keep up the great work.

I just want to say that you forced me you rogue you into investing in a brand new Rapido APT-E with DCC/sound decoder. I couldn't resist it, but just got a message saying it couldn't be delivered today as arranged due to snow, hopefully tomorrow though.😡😢😢

I lived at Stanton on the Wolds in the 1970's. It was on that line that ran from Nottingham to Melton Mowbray via Plumtree, Tollerton, Stanton on the Wolds, the Pullman Inn near Widmerpool and on to Old Dalby. Stanton tunnel was a mile long and under a wood 100 yards from our back garden and Moores Nursery. I watched the APT-E once come around a bend near Platt Lane and it came at impressive speed towards my friend and me! We were on the top of the tunnel entrance arch, I'll never forget it!

As a lover of Westerns, you will I'm sure know that in 71/72 (when I was commuting every weekday between Andover and Farnborough), Westerns and Warships were the usual motive power for Exeter-Waterloo trains. They were getting tired by that stage and we started to to see Class 33s as replacements for unserviceable engines.

Hi Charlie! I was concerned with the tight radius curves on the layout...This train reminds me of Sweden's X2000 with its tilting car bodies. I had the pleasure in 1993 when Amtrak toured that beauty When i visited it at Newark, New Jersey back then. Meanwhile I want this model by Rapido as well. Continue great & safe runs with this model masterpiece! Enjoy & thanks for sharing!😀☺.

Wow, Charlie, this is the first of the Rapido APT-E I've watched any footage off. They are as sweet as candy to see and hear. They were an expensive purchase if I remember for those that bought them, but boy do they look worth it. Each unit must be some length as she seems to nearly take up the whole line from tunnel to tunnel. The fade in and out lights are a lovely touch as you've said, and the swing out of the cabs on the curves is scary (I feel a bit queasy and wearing my tea is on my lap). If that was... P (that nasty word) the cabbies must have been bricking it until the loco straighten out. Even here they narrowly escape having their coupling noses taken out by the mouths of the tunnels. You must have been chuffed as punch with it arriving in the mail, tho four years on down the line (trying to keep it Rail), do you still run her much. Especially at the cost they were at the time, was she worth it to you looking back. Thanks for sharing this short-lived expensive DMU in model form, she is a beauty to have in one's collection.

Hi John, sadly that wasn’t the case. The first one gave up after about 2 week and they sent another. I sold that one to a friend at cost price. It was a lovely train but it’s suitability to my layout was too limited. Ideally, it would go in a glass cabinet.

@TATICMOOR 4 жыл бұрын
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yes it would look great in a cabinet, but for the money, you'd want a fully working train. Did the 2nd last any longer than the 1st and did you see her run on a large layout before you sold it?

I don't call myself a "model railroader" but I do have a few train sets, locos, turnouts, and even a reversing loop. Because do acid is limited I only set them up from time to time. They are strictly DC. Model railroading has come a long way with DCC on the scene. My question concerns this passenger train. Is it a "push-pull" operation (in the model) or (in the prototype) or does only the lead engine providing the power in either direction? This is a very nice model.
