He looked great against Alvarez (probably his best performance), but Eddie went 4-3 in the UFC -- hardly untouchable. He's 1-1 at lightweight (a weight class we all pretend he competes in), and the only thing he's done lately is be the third guy to beat up Cowboy on his four-fight losing streak. He's in this discussion because everyone's in the Conor business. Nothing more. The caveat about Jones is absurd too; you can dispute Jones vs Khabib all day long, but to NOT include him and include McGregor is a mockery.

I fully agree with what you’re saying, Conor shouldn’t be on this list and shouldn’t be ahead of Jones, but tbf to him his only unavenged loss in the UFC is against Khabib (arguably the most dominant fighter of all time). He also has arguably a better resume than the likes of usman, Cejudo and even khabib at the minute as well as the fact that he’s the only one in that list to have a win in three different weight divisions (definition of p4p). Although I do agree he shouldn’t be on this list but there is although small, a case to be made.

However, as per Chael's historical reference, the definition of p4p isn't that an athlete can/does compete at multiple weights, but that, if weight was not a factor, how would a specific athlete and their specific skill set match up. I'm also not sure how much weight (no pun intended) I'd give Conor's wins at 170, as they were against lightweights with whom he mutually agreed not to cut, as opposed to going to 170 and challenging ranked fighters there. Yes, he avenged the loss to Nate, but that was a back and forth battle to a decision; Nate still has the more decisive win. Cejudo and Conor both beat two then-current champs (Mighty Mouse/TJ and Aldo/Eddie respectively), so the resume comparison there is kind of a pick 'em for me, though Conor has been finished more, and more recently; also DJ and TJ were both more dominant champs than Eddie, which is worth something. I'd also have to go with Usman's CV -- a 15-fight streak, and the consecutive run through Maia, RDA, Woodley and Covington alone is incredible. Ultimately, were weight not a factor, the wrestling and relative gas tanks of Cejudo, Usman, Jones, et al. would render Conor fairly uncompetitive against anyone on Chael's list.

He beat max holloway, dustin poirer, chad mendes, jose aldo, nate diaz, eddie alvarez in the space of 3 years, was the first ufc fighter to hold to belts at the same time in 2 different divisions and lasted 10 rounds with the best technical boxer of the past few decades😂. ​@@danyalmirza2571 I have some counter points for you... have you ever heard the phrase "what have you done for me lately?". since 2016, his only activity in the sport is losing to khabib (which is fine, no shame there) and beating old man cerrone. his wins over Max and Dustin were when all these guys were super young... almost nobody had even heard of max yet. they werent the killers they are today and those victories are largely overstated. His one and ONLY victory at 155 is the night he won the title, against eddie alvarez who has only won 2 of his last 6 fights. his ONLY 2 victories at 145 against top 5 opponents are Jose and Chad. The reality is that conor only has 4 victories over guys who were top 5 AT THE TIME HE FOUGHT THEM, and 2 of those 4 were champs at the time, being jose and eddie. They were masterful spectacular victories, but it still stands that he only has 4 victories over top 5 opponents EVER. (chad, donald, jose, eddie) This is a very good resume, but this is not a pound for pound great resume at all. To give some context, Volkanovski beat Max, Jose, and Chad all in one calendar year. if having a small handful of great wins is enough to put you in the p4p list than surely Volkanovski would rank higher than connor, no? "what have you done for me lately" matters in p4p lists, otherwise DJ and GSP would eternally be #1 and #2.

Chael, I agree with you n this list. However, I have a question about your comments on Nunez. How do you not rank Shevchenko ahead of her? In my opinion, she beat her in their fight. Granted it was a close fight. However, if they weighed the same, I think there is no question that Shevchenko destroys her. Am I wrong? Wasn't she a lot smaller than Nunez when they fought? Or at least not at her natural weight?
