he's so wrong about UFC paying market value, the market standard is to pay 50% of total revenue to players. It's the case within a few percent for NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, etc. and even Bellator. All are over 44%. UFC is like 18-19%. It's absolutely abhorrent. I just looked up the numbers again, they've actually gone way up for a lot of leagues. MLB is at 64%, NHL 69.8%, MLS 76%.

DC once said that a fighter shouldn’t think of himself as a failure no matter what level you made it to because most people wouldn’t even step in face to face with another person in a combat sport of any kind. He said you should be proud of yourself period for how ever long your run lasted and your accomplishments. Especially if it was what you loved to do. So I agree with your assessment of both sides. I think it is worth saying that there are millions of men in the US alone that train some kind of combat sport. A small percentage like to compete. Not for money, but just for the thrill of it. A fraction of those go pro, and a tiny fraction make it to the UFC. For everyone else, it is a hard road. Some guys just love to compete and they do it how and where they can.

Lance Palmer is a great example for this conversation. For those who do not know, Lance Palmer has been a PFL fighter since 2013 (before the organization was PFL, it was WSOF). Lance won the PFL tournament twice (back-to-back), which is a one million dollar prize. Aside from that, he has consistently been getting paid 6-figures just to show and fight. For Lance, should he have made the jump to the UFC when he was in his prime? Or, is he smarter for staying with the PFL?

Honestly if I was one of those fighters I’d choose a “lesser” competition like Bellator or PFL (even though lesser competition is just subjective) just to not risk myself and still have somewhat of a public profile that could help me network and leapfrog into business or something else. At the end of the day the UFC and any other fighter league is all about the eyeballs and needle you move. If you can’t get people in the seats it doesn’t matter where you fight. The only good thing about the UFC is that the company has done well to become the more “mainstream” organization so casuals would always favor it over anything else.

You can’t hand out more money with less viewers. It’s a losing business strategy. So for legacy, you need to be in UFC. For more money quickly? @@33moneyball Yeah they’re not getting paid more, but I think bottom UFC fighters are making significantly less than top fighters at other promotions. UFC fighters who are not ranked in the top 10 barely make enough money to even pay for their training camps. At least non-UFC fighters can get advertisers on their flag/trunks for fights to help cover the pay difference. I agree top UFC guys should absolutely be UFC rather than anywhere else. But I’d rather be a top 3 guy at another promotion, than a UFC fighter fighting to crack the top 15. If you want to dream at being world champion, UFC is where it’s at, but if you know you’re not at that level that’s a different situation.

Merry Christmas Chael and all fight fans! I would have to agree with Joe, I feel like a lot of fighters want the prestige and infamy that comes with being a great fighter. And if they want to make more money I like to think many of them understand that they need to have a bigger following to move up the card. I feel like that’s what a lot of them ultimately want, and I feel like that can only be achieved in the ufc or one championship. UFC is going to make you far more famous but I feel like one championship isn’t bad either because real fight fans will know who you are and hopefully try and elevate you to that next level to be in the ufc.

I would argue that Joe’s message was related more to the fact that if you want to be “the best” outside of the UFC, you are wasting your time. Because everyone knows the best MMA fighters are not outside of the UFC. The UFC is the ultimate battlefield. Therefore, if you are not the best inside of the UFC…you are simply not the best PERIOD. I can also see the other side too tho. If your main goal is anything other than becoming the best, (money, longevity, etc.) then sure you can fiddle around outside of the UFC and that’s totally fine. But you will never be known as the best to ever do it. It doesn’t work that way.

Would you rather be rich and famous, rich and not famous, poor and famous, or poor and not famous? That is the question. I think many people would choose rich and not famous. I agree here with Chael. Your career is all about what is important to you. You can't be wasting your career if you accomplished everything that you wanted. At the end of the day, it is your life to live.

My thing is as a competitor that lost a lot, competing as a powerlifter on my life's longevity, that is the other aspect. So ask people like Don Fry if he could trade some of the wear and tear on his body knowing now what it has cost him in quality of life what would be his choice. a championship or the money and a healthier retirement to enjoy the fruits of his labor?

I wouldn't say fighters outside the UFC are wasting their careers because if they're getting paid good money then they're doing what they need to do however no fighter out side the UFC should ever be considered great or even a top ten fighter as we have seen on mulriple occasions that guys outside the UFC struggle or fail becasue they spend so much time fighting subpar talent.

Different folks, different goals. If your goal is money, then you can absolutely find that outside the UFC. If your goal is to be the best, then spending your prime outside the UFC would be a waste of your opportunity to achieve that.

Not everyone's going to get into the UFC, it's just the way it is. Joe is a company man, of course he's going to say that. He's also a multimillionaire who hasn't struggled in decades, tell a poor and upcoming fighter that they're "wasting" their career. This is all they're good at and all they've wanted. That's like saying, you're wasting your musical career because you signed to a label that's not Universal.
@NNokTV

He wasn't talking about up and coming fighters. He was saying the elite fighters that are fighting in other companies are wasting their time. Guys that could easily come to the UFC and compete with the best, but instead they're staying the big fish in a small pond.
@RoguePlanetSounds
@RoguePlanetSounds 6 ай бұрын
@@NNokTV ahh, thanks for clarifying, realized that's what he meant as the video went on. But I'd have to ask, is someone who is fighting in ONE is wasting their time? Still one of the biggest organizations and I'd argue has comparable talent. Aren't a good number of fighters in PFL and Bellator ex UFC fighters? I still don't think Joes take was very good though.
@NNokTV
@NNokTV 6 ай бұрын
@@RoguePlanetSounds It was on the podcast with Bo Nickal. One of the points they were making was the endorsement deals you get from being a star in the UFC. Things that won’t come in other promotions even if your fight purse may be bigger. ONE has a huge market overseas so I’m sure those guys are doing just fine. Can def make an argument for each perspective with no one really being wrong.
