The people don't want that though.. on every single poll or post about this it's massively clear the people want to see Jones v tom next. Jon's done everything at lhw and has no need to go back down an prove anything in that division. He's by far the lhw goat. In heavyweight however he's beat gane and a practically retired stipe. There's still room to prove himself and toms shown he's the only challenge in that division, toms also the interim and has earned a title shot. So unless Jon's retiring he has to take that fight next. If he gets through it and wants to take Alex on afterwards then people will definitely want to watch but right now toms his biggest challenge and has a much bigger chance of beating Jon then Alex does.

If Jones truly values his GOAT status and wants to secure it without any controversy, defeating Tom is the only surefire path. Alternatively, he could choose to walk away and still remain in the conversation as a potential GOAT, perhaps even likely considered one, but without absolute certainty and likely facing significant pushback. On the other hand, if he loses to Tom, and especially to Alex, his standing as the GOAT would be irreparably compromised.

The problem with khabib being goat is he just didn't stick around long enough after getting the belt. Compared to Jones who went through the next generation of talent 3 times and defended his belt against the best for over a decade khabib doesn't come close. He probably would've and in that period there's no doubt khabib was on that level but look at Connor for example.. he was phenomenal all the way upto champ champ but he fell off a cliff after switching into boxing and now isn't even near goat status. Who knows how khabibs career would've went if he stayed around for the next gen. We all know how Jones got on.. he kept winning.
