Great tutorial. I had made my first single color byzantine bracelet a year ago, but needed a refresher course... especially since I planned on making it two colors this time. Thanks so much!

Firstly a very informative video thank you. Whilst l have no problem in making chain mail for armour, my son's decided to buy me a pocketwatch for my birthday with the comment make your own chain. Using wire l have available (18AWG) l made my ring's on the first available rod l could find, ( wife's knitting needle 3.75mm ) . I now have a very nice looking and articulate chain thank you. My dilemma is l now think the one end should graduate to the t-bar. What advice could you give me on decreasing the ring size to make it look right.

Jump rings we buy in MN are on 18 or 20 gage wire but come in MM. So 6mm, 8mm, 10mm etc. What size MM rings do I use, and am trying to learn with 9MM rings and it's very hard....Thanks and I am going to keep trying

Hi! Does anyone know the total diameter of each byzantine finished chain? Based off of the options for the gauges listed in the comments. Thank you for your help.

You've shown that really clearly Deb and now I want to try it. Is it possible to do it in 4mm ID with 1mm gauge wire? We can't get all those odd sizes over here....well, maybe one or two, but not much to choose from. Great tutorial, thank you!
@AussieMaillers
@AussieMaillers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Glossy, if using 1.0mm wire then a ring ID of 3.50mmID is considered best. You could do it with 4.00mmID but you may need to put three rings in the centre otherwise it will be loose. Deb

@@AussieMaillers You were right Deb, I made a small sample yesterday and it was a bit loose - I'll stick to 3.50. A big thank you!

I wanted to ask a question are there any special links you have to get for this?
@AussieMaillers
@AussieMaillers 4 ай бұрын
Hi Jennie, not sure what you mean by special links, there are some suggested rings sizes mentioned in the description tab under the video for you to start with, in both metric and imperial. If that isn't what you are after I'm going to need more information. Deb

I purchased 16g 5 ID rings, will that work to do this?
@AussieMaillers
@AussieMaillers 10 ай бұрын
It would depend on what you mean by 16G. It could work if you are using AWG as your gauge measuring system, but possibly not if you are using SWG.

Hi there. Question for you. I am new to chain Maille and learned byzantine last month in a class. I am struggling with the last step of each unit as it is very crowded trying to place two rings in the space available. I am using 18 SWG, 5/32 inch rings. Suggestions? Looks like you recommend a different diameter for 18 swg. TIA!
@AussieMaillers
@AussieMaillers 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, I use the same sized rings you mentioned in this video. They are a tighter fight but they do work in the Bright and Anodized Aluminium. What material are your rings? If they are made from a softer metal, the actual ring ID might be smaller that what the aluminium makes and that could affecting your weave. Let me know what you are using. Deb
