I bought a $45 Hoke jewerly torch, T grade hoses, $65 propane regulator from National, and use an oxygen concentrator and propane. Super-cheap way to get started.

Your videos are amazing , can you do a video on front dropout brazing(replacing old ones with new).

Propane brazing torches have a big flame. Not easy to pull it down into a point for small stuff. It’s a whole different handle and everything. Harris Stay Silv black brazing flux works great for silver and bronze.

Thanks for the video! What size tip are you using on the Victor torch? When I search "Victor J-28" I just get the handle, not the tip...

Is it fair to say that some brazing is involved in all steel frame building? You need to braze the cable stops and bottle mounts correct? They cannot be welded? Thanks
@squiresuzuki3 жыл бұрын
Not strictly. I mean, the "braze-ons" on titanium and aluminum frames are welded, and I don't see any reason you can't do the same with steel. But I would guess most prefer the aesthetics of brazed braze-ons. Also, with butted tubes, welding braze-ons on the thin .4-.6mm middle sections would be difficult.
@musicwhiz7115 жыл бұрын
you ever tig braze any of these frames? A video on it would be rad!
@cobraframebuilding5 жыл бұрын
I don't have any experience with TIG brazing. My, mostly uninformed opinion, is that it's probably only useful for a couple things on the bike. Maybe some of the braze-ons or lower stress joints like stay bridges. It might not be a bad way to go for water bottle bosses where you're welding a relatively thick part to the thin un-butted section of the tube. I may dabble with it someday, but probably not too soon.

My local welding shop can fill bbq sized bottles with propylene (map) gas pretty cheap.

Is silver too weak for rack mounts?
@Liljoozy3 жыл бұрын
Is it possible to add water bottle mounts to a frame without screwing into it? I mean like by melting the metal of the bottle holder onto the tube rather than drilling INTO the tube.

You can use studs instead of bosses

My friend was a certified welding inspector and he had a 100 lb propane tank and rented the oxy tank.

Are those the Smith kevlar hoses, or the ones from Tinman Tech?
@cobraframebuilding5 жыл бұрын
I think they are smith, but I got them back in like 2010 so I don't remember for sure anymore.

Those are Smith. The TM ones are plain back rubber.

I shopped around and found a place to that let me buy bigger tanks. But places like Praxair will only let me buy small tanks. So shop around.
