Interesting, I thought bowfire was 15" and crossbow was 18" under the mass combat system. I think you can handwave it away as wind at the back or something like that. But the way the whole combat was run, you easily shifted between the larger combat and individual combat making a great narrative with just a few dice rolls. Huge success!

That's an oops on my part, I actually used the Swords & Wizardry ranges. I just double checked them, and must have transposed them in my head. The good news is it only means 6 more archer casualties, but not requiring a morale test. The orcs still would have fallen to the lancers.
