Again great video Dave! Found online the manual that came with the saw. Page 37 gives a description and exploded view of cleaning the oil pump. Appears to have a larger filter (sponge material) than your patient had. Thanks again.

That’s good news I found that oil was still disappearing out of the tank and I simply couldn’t see it flicking off the chain. I think if you need half to three quarters of oil each time you fill the fuel your probably going ok. Don’t forget to clear the little hole in the cutter bar. The bar can also be reversed to share the wear. If you can post the link to the manual here I’ll pin the comment for others to find! Well done

Hey Davo... Do you remember how the plastic tube from the chain oil reservoir attaches to the housing? Mine had a spring inside the tube and a copper Ferrell with a slight flange on it. I think, it pushed into the tube? But I'm not sure if I'm missing a piece? It seems like there would be something with a hole in it for the oil to come through while securing it to the housing and flange with tube attached? Any ideas at all would help....

It’s. been a while and I don’t recall how all that went together. Perhaps if you search for a spare parts list you will also find an exploded view showing the position of all the parts. This was my brothers saw so it doesn’t live at my house.

@@DavoShed Thank you for your reply... Just so happens after watching your video I dove into it and discovered that my oil hose was deteriorated in pieces floating around the oil reservoir!! Replaced it with 7mm O.D. clear plastic hose and it worked beautifully 👍

My regular saw is a very similar model and it works great. Clean and sharpen it before I put it away and it cuts like new every time I take it out. This little chain saw sharpener was the best thing I ever bought. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m164fmmQjNCDjs0

Hey Davo. Thanks for the vid. It helped me as I have the same saw since new 41 years ago. I'm just now tearing mine down for the same issue. I've ordered a new diaphragm, spring & gasket kit. Just replaced the oil line as it was blocked & hard as a rock. There's a spring inside the line. I cut it out and slide it into a new piece of fuel line. Replaced the fuel & vent line also. (Oregon 07-256 Fuel Line 0.117" by 0.211") I retrieved the thimble which is just at the exit hole. Grabbed it with needle nose and the line and thimble pulls out. BTW. I'm pretty sure the spring goes under the diaphragm and not on top. That might be your issue. Did you ever get it running? hope you still have it. Cheers.

One way to routinely check whether the saw is putting out sufficient bar oil is to bring the end of the bar up close to a log and bring it up towards maximum rpm. You should see a slight oily mark on the log as a small amount of bar oil gets flung off the end of the bar.
@DavoShed
@DavoShed 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Starship, I did rev it up next to a piece of wood. Perhaps that scene got the chop. I didn’t see any oil flinging off. Makes me think the amount of oil coming out is still on the low side. Mike out at Area 43 will give it a proper test I’m sure.

@@DavoShed That’s what I was taught but of the two chainsaws that I have owned, only one of them let out enough oil to cause some to fly off the end of the bar.

Hi guys, I have this model as well. So your saying the proper way for the oil to flow is tilt up and give it full throttle? Mine I have to tilt sideways then it comes out.... Guessing the oil pump must not work?
@DavoShed

The oil disappears out of the tank at the rate of 1 tank of fuel equals about 80% of the oil. At least on this one I reckon I just can’t see it. It’s going somewhere :) Thanks for commenting

Uou can't blow air back through the oil escapement hole as there is a check valve in the port on the pump end .You can however, if the hose is not connected on pump end........

I am having an issue with mine where the oil is pumping and creating pressure but not oil is coming out. Was told it could be the tank vent is blocked, which I think I saw the brass sleeve (where it lubes the chain) is also the tank vent. But can anyone confirm, or know where the tank vent is located?
@DavoShed
@DavoShed Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure where the vent is. I assume you mean where the air comes into the tank. Perhaps you should search for a small engine forum where people are actively looking to answer peoples questions. I don’t have this saw at my place so I can’t go and look .

if I am long storing my saws, I'll drain both the fuel and bar oil. I'll also put a bit of straight gas into the bar oil reservoir, swish it aroung and dump it to get rid of that residual oil. otherwise that remaining oil will make a mess for weeks.
@DavoShed
@DavoShed 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcus, That’s a great idea. I have to drain the bar oil every time on my old saws or it ends up on the floor by the next morning. I don’t worry too much about the fuel as ethanol is optional here in Australia. Although at the end of the season I like to run them dry so the 2 stroke oil doesn’t get left behind to cause trouble. If you are talking about the ones making all the sounds at the beginning of the video, they are Rainbow Lorikeets en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_lorikeet They are quite comical as well as being noisy. We have quite a lot of birds here. It’s like living in a aviary sometimes 🤠 Thanks for watching and taking an interest.

Good question Two years ago now and I don’t remember finding one at the time. I gave the saw back to my brother and he used it for a while and said oil was disappearing from the tank. Another user suggested running it with the bar off and watching the oiler hole. That was a good idea🤠

@@georgeronnieburnettburnett4684 The one I had went back to a family member where it lives happily as a backup saw. I reckon if your not wearing out cutter bars then it shouldn’t matter that much but I’m no expert :) I just video what I’m doing in the hope that others can glean something from it. I’m glad it helped you get into your saw. Thanks for commenting. I’m slowly crawling towards the magic 1000 subs but with How To style video instead of entertainment videos it’s a slow road.

The title says the oiler’s not working. I explain where all the pieces are and where to look for blockages. Even though I could not see the oil coming out when testing the saw now uses 3/4 of the oil for every tank full of fuel. Other people have mentioned it is hard to see the oil coming out on this model saw. Sorry you thought it was a waste of time.

Mr Davo is correct insofar as the amount of oil that is being fed on this particular saw - it's fairly conservative. I have a low hour 009L that I've owned since 2013 that I just restored a few months ago (new oem piston/rings, mild port work/case matching, exhaust work and carb/airbox mods). Out of the four saws that I run, this one barely leaves a trace of oil on the bar, yet it sucks almost a tank of oil to a tank of gas. The oilers on these 009's are a known issue, but while they last, they're strong runners. My buddies who've run this saw call it The Bulldog. It has instant throttle response and pulls like a truck in the midrange, turning 1,000 rpm + more than stock. No other saw can match the deep throaty sound that a tuned 009 makes with that cast aluminum exhaust and flared tip. For a 40cc saw, it's a beast.
