Just for clearance: Chainsaw Man author is very well known for his love for movies and stories. So the opening has many references to films such as Texas Chainsaw massacre, Pulp fiction, Don't look up, etc. Also he loves Cinema so there was that scene.

Just so you know, Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw man's mangaka, is really into movies and cinema as a whole, hence the cinema scene in the opening credits (by the way, there was multiple references in this opening credits, to Pulp Fiction, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, No Country for Old Men and so forth).

Few things just to know 1. The beginning of the episode song/theme is normally called intro not credits, the ending song is the outro (this anime has a different outro for every episode 12 total). 2. Fan service is a lot worse in anime than tv/movies, I don’t remember how much is in chainsaw-man manga but I doubt it’s bad. 3. Denji is a pervert and that leads to tons of lighthearted moments. 4. There’s a similar anime called JJk (Jujutsu Kaisen) which has already finished its first season (24ep) and schedule season two in 2023. It’s a great anime so if you plan to continue your anime journey that should be your next watch 🙈

Tatsuki Fujimoto has a very similar storytelling style as Hiroya Oku (the author of Gantz, Inuyashiki and Gigant.) Both are heavily influenced by American horror, sci-fi, pulp and crime thriller cinema.

The trio for this type of anime is Jujutsu kaisen,Chainsaw man and Hells paradise except hells paradise comes out later this year or early next year all animated by the same studio.

The pointy teeth is pretty much a design. Alot of japanese author put a pointy teeth in their characters to i guess make it cooler. There's no point to it. Pretty much how classic heroes wears underwear for no reason other than just being part of the design.

Going to be the heretic here and say I was not impressed. Yes, it looks stunning. But, in my opinion, I've seen this story so many times. There are too many anime with this basic premise. Generic guy gains strange superpowers and fights demons/monsters in a generic city. Backed up by a team of generic "insert secret org here". Throw in ludicrous amounts of "gore" to make it seem "dark and edgy". Oh, yes, let's not forget, the power creep factor. MC is so OP that his enemies will become more ridiculous over time to offer some sort of challenge. None of which will matter, because the MC has plot armor. Generic people might die along the way, "inspiring" MC to greater feats. None of this should in any way stop anyone from enjoying the show, it's just not my cup of tea, and that *should* be ok.

I think that is a totally fair take! I think the long term success of the show will depend on the limitations they place on MC, and what the emotional story they end up telling is. I liked this a lot as a jumping off point though and I'm very excited to give it a chance!

to be fair, fujimoto's first full length manga was the most extreme unorthodox story i've ever read so it makes sense that he came down to earth for chainsaw man. It definitely does have a generic plot set up but what it does with that is truly fantastic imo

Based off of this take, you haven’t read the Manga. This show absolutely has some of those troupes in it BUT it does them VERY VERY WELL. The manga is extremely popular for a reason, I highly recommend sticking through till the end.

@@NerdyNightly First off, thanks for your reply Nerdy, love your content as always. I truly hope you enjoy the show. Secondly, to all the "have you read the manga?" people. No, I haven't, and in my opinion, I shouldn't need to. If a show can not stand on it's own, it is, in my opinion, a poorly written show. Access to external media should not be a requirement. I watched this reaction for 2 reasons. First, I love the reactors, I'll even watch them react to shows I don't like. I enjoy watching them, and the way they think is so different in so many ways than my own, that is fun to see different perspectives, whether I agree with them or not. There's always a chance I will learn a new way of looking at life. Second, it gives me a chance to "get a feel" for a show before I potentially waste time watching it myself. It's not uncommon for me to begin watching a completely new show after watching only one reaction to an episode. That's how it was for 86. Generally speaking, if the first episode doesn't grab me, I won't finish the series. That may seem harsh, but that's just they way it works for me. I'm also usually the one that finds new anime my entire family can watch. So, the first episode tells usually either tells me enough to give it a watch, or pass on it. Finally, I have been watching anime for about 40 years. I've seen more than enough anime to know whether or not I will like a show from the first episode. Especially one that I've seen numerous variations of already. Perfect example, Attack on Titan. I forced myself to watch 6 episodes, after the first failed to impress me. That was it. There is more than enough anime in the world that I don't feel I need to waste MY time watching something just because everyone else thinks it's "OMG this is the most amazing thing ever!" That is NOT to say that "if YOU like this show YOU are wasting YOUR time". That is me saying, "Feel free to enjoy a show I don't like/care about." If that offends you, all I can say is Why?
