I'd give the followers on the 251 a stroke or 2 with a flat file, sawdust seems a bit fine and I know the motor's powerful enough to pull a bit extra. These tests tend to be a bit "unscientific" because (as long as the saw is powerful enough) chain geometry is the most relevant factor for cutting speed imo. And even if both chains are new they aren't necessarily identical.

Thank you for your comment, indeed the chain of the MS 251 was less good than that of the MS 390 (which was new). the comparison is therefore not fair. Basically I just made this video for fun and sharing and it got a lot of views! I would like to do a video again on occasion with chains in good condition

@@twosparkstroke9870 If you wanted to be really geeky about it, you could use the same chain and bar on both saws! I guess there are a lot of chainsaw nerds out there :)

Well, a "laboratory testing" and "live testing in real conditions" there is a huge gap. Its not important "in perfect conditions" but is important in real conditions how one product performs. This video is NEAR perfect comparison because it shows the reality in real conditions. Yes, the push force for both chainsaws must be the same for fair testing, but "real conditions" that means, to adapt to natural conditions.

@@thepreserver83 Nobody mentioned "push force" and it's much less relevant than chain geometry (different in different products, the "followers" are the nubs on the chain which determine cutting depth+speed). Different chains are gauged differently, and the two saws are not using the same one. Also, as OP said, one chain is new while the other is used. "Real conditions" - For most of every chain's life, it is not new. So if you want your "adapt to natural conditions" version of the experiment, both chains should be filed evenly, as I suggested. This comment comes across a bit like you've mucked about in the backyard a couple times and convinced yourself you know what you're talking about, stay safe out there. And please don't go wild on your followers, it also makes your saw much less controllable, albeit faster.

The 251 is a homeowner saw while 390 is a rancher saw that costs almost twice as much. Doesn't help that you aren't really trying with the dull chain on the 251.

Indeed the chain of the MS251 was not perfectly sharp, but still not bad. And that of the MS 390 and not 91 was new. However there is still a difference ... even if I prefer the power to weight ratio of the MS251.

stihl 251 are 45,6 cmc si 3 cp si 390 are 64 cmc si 4,4 cp e normal sa taie mai repede am ms 390 si stiu prea bine cum taie.

@@adi123q Da te cred! Dar una e 2-5 secunde avans la o tăietură și alta e de la 10 secunde în sus! În cazul de față diferența e prea mare! Se poate observa clar că 251 are o problemă la garnitura tăietoare, am tăiat cu 230 și știu cum taie! 251 e superior la 230. Sigur 251 nu poate depăși 391 dar poate ține sub 5 sec diferență la grosimi mici și medii!
