During my working years I was busy raising my daughter and holding things together, always on the move. When I retired, I really let go of things and drifted along for a while without a plan, and it cost me. You're absolutely right, sitting on the sidelines will take you nowhere. I had to make a decision who I wanted to be for the rest of my life, and how I could make a difference. I realized what I want the most is make the world a friendlier place, and help my daughter find her path to happiness and contentment. I think kindness is key. We all make little ripples in the fabric of the Universe, and when I listen to all you good people, I have hope for the world ☺️❤️

100% on the opportunities out there right now! Maybe not in the "job sector" but if you have a trade skill there is money just waiting for someone to come grab it. My brother and I started a small side project pressure washing homes/vehicles/concrete driveways/fences, etc. It was SMALL at first, just something to make a few extra bucks. Last year we bought a commercial pressure washer essentially intending to make the money back to cover the cost on a few jobs & if we made anymore, great. Plus we'd have a good pressure washer for personal use. Within a month we had two painting crews that liked our work so much on pre-paint washing (and getting chipping paint off of eve's, etc) that we had 6-8 jobs a week, each one was $400-$800 bucks for 3-5hr work (vinyl is cheaper/easier, Dryvit/Stucco is more delicate/takes longer, so it just depends on the surface, whether you need to use chemicals, square footage, etc). We were turning down work as there was just no way we could get to it. Now we have a job that pays well literally whenever we want it, at least for spring/summer/fall. I've got a friend that does small tree-trimming (like branches around power lines, taking down widow makers, that sort of thing) and he's probably pulling in 50k a year from doing 3-4 small jobs on the weekends with a Stihl Farm Boss & a little 12" electric lol. There is constant need for small engine repair, general maintenance, mowing, landscaping, painting, cleaning rain gutters (I know a guy who has made a full time job of repairing old gutters/spraying them out) The economy might not be very good right now, but Billy's 100% right that people just don't want to do those "husband" chores that the man of the house used to do on weekends. They pay good money to not do them as well... Get out there and make it happen! If you aren't a "master" at whatever task, start small & volunteer your services for free until you know what you're doing and feel like you're worth paying for. It's great advertisement for whatever your service is, and you can bet you'll be the first person those people call when they need it done again (just don't let them walk all over you... charge what you're worth!)

i agree with you 100 % the only people not making it are the ones who are not motivated. I've worked all my life and have done side jobs right along with my regular jobs. Never looking to take advantage of anyone just putting a couple extra bucks in my pocket. And always by doing jobs that gave me satisfaction. And I've done many freebies by just helping out anyone who needed it. The problem now is there's no more kid down the block or friends kid that's even remotely interested in helping out or earning a few bucks. I'll be 75 soon but I'm still always looking to help out(if i can). you and your brother are on the right path👍 thanks

@mfallen2023 Ай бұрын
@@carlotodaro5052 Well thank you, I appreciate that! Before we started this little project I thought the claims of it being hard to find high schooler's/early 20's "kids" to hire was over-blown, but I was totally wrong! I now have painting crews, general contractors, etc I work with regularly and they're always under-staffed. 20 year veteran journeyman plasterers having to mix mud because they can't find a laborer, that kind of thing. We've had 5 or 6 different laborers since we started a year ago, the longest stuck around for maybe 2mo. I don't get it, as we generally do 4-5 jobs a week (mostly on the weekends) and we just need someone to grab an extension hose off the trailer, hose down any bushes plants close to the house/fence/etc so they don't get harmed by the detergents, wipe windows down when we're wrapping up the job. It's not hard work, but people just don't want to work it seems. I don't get it... Done quite a bit of free work since we started doing this. Get a lot of neighbors of clients that ask what the rate is, or if I do this/that, and in most cases if I've already got everything unloaded I''ll just do it while I'm there. I enjoy the work otherwise I wouldn't be doing it, and especially when it's someone that is financially struggling (which is a lot people anymore...) I'd feel bad if I DIDN'T help them out. Met some great people that I'd have never met otherwise, and as this world keeps getting crazier and crazier, that's far more valuable than money anyway... I've rambled far too long, apologies! haha. Hope you have a nice evening. Godspeed.

WOW!!!! Such a beautiful piece of mother nature all I can say! I have a places like this in Ohio. It’s called the Hocking Hills/Old Man’s Cave area, with just beautiful rock formations, like what you have out on the left coast. Such a beautiful and peaceful place! I LOVE IT!!! Also not very far from where the Paul Bunyan show use to be! Specially when they had it done in the Hocking College south of Athens, OH.

Maybe were all nuts coming here to listen to your interventions and nuggets of wisdom!! But you are 100% right. There is plenty of opportunity for people with honesty, integrity, a smile and willing to work! As someone learning i am maybe even too honest for my own good. But that has bought me lots of referrals and repeat work too. I have even told a customer i had never done a job like theirs but wanted to try it. Told them that i wanted the chance to learn and that if i got in over my head, i would stop, clean up, and let them find someone else to finish. And if that happened all my work would be 100% FREE. That honesty won me the job, and a customer that was actually very accomodating to the job running a bit long as i learned. And i have been asked to come back for another tree later this year. Making sure the customers expectations align with what your going to give is also very important!!

Very nice work Buckin! Years ago I cut almost half way thru a large horse or mule shoe. The shoe was placed in a crotch of a very large maple a long time ago. I was using my Stihl 056 pro with full chisel full house Oregon Powercut chain 72LPX, 3/8 IN, .050 Gauge 28" bar. Wife still has the shoe in the barn. If she can find it , I will post a picture.

All trees could be something. But firewood is something! With a log that big and being a “yard tree”. Plus how does a guy move that much wood at once without big equipment. A guy must as “Is the juice worth the squeeze?” The cost to make lumber from that one log probably isn’t worth the cost of loading and hauling a single log. But as firewood it’s worth every dollar and minute spent producing it! Nice work

I cranked rite into a Pony Shoe in a crotch of a big 60+ inch silver maple with my old Husky 395xp and instantly broke the chain before I could back out. Lucky that the entire bar was in the wood or the chain would have ripped me up pretty good. That was the last time that I've used a .3/8 .050 chain on my big saw. I've been running Stihl 404 skip chain with a square grind on a 32" bar ever since. I run skip tooth with 404 because I can keep the RPMs up and not over work the saw. I've have hit stuff 404 hard enough to rip the strap clean off off but I haven't broke a chain Yet. Blacksmith forged square nails and old barb wire are very very hard on chains lol. I've cut into quite a few while cutting firewood off of the edge of old cattle pastures.

Do people get what happened here? When some people get shot, the doctor says: "A 16th of an inch to the right and it would have hit an artery, and you would be dead". You hit the artery. You cut a nail in half, the long way mind you, in some random tree that if you count the rings was nailed into it roughly over 70 years ago.
