I've seen Chaka in concert over 2 dozen times, the first being at Spirit of 76 music festival at Shea Stadium in NYC where she road into the stadium on the roof of a yellow cab - the crowd went off as Rufus went into "You Got the Love" I was 11 years old.

Chaka Khan has a one of a most prolific voices of all time. She is one of my favorite singers. I love her since the 1970's. The music she has given us bring back sweet memories. She can sing almost all kinds of music, jazz, pop, soul, R&B even Gospels. If she want to she can even sing opra. She has a high octave vocal range. I put her up there among singers like Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, and Natalie Cole just to name a few. Chaka Khan made a successful cross over into pop music.🎶 🎵 👌 She should be honored in the Rock Hall of Fame. Chaka we love you. Thank you for the music. 🎶

Chaka is truly in her own lane..nobody is quite like her really..she is a singer with a mind of a musician/instrumentalist..her style of singing, her timing n sense of rhythm, her phrasing all blended so well with the music..she can be powerful n outstanding with her vocals but still be intact and in the pocket with the band..if anything she enhances the music n not being too upfront like most singers..truly one of a kind..now try to listen to singers who try to cover her songs n you'll hear the difference.

That was about the time i was in LA as "back packer" with my GF, watching Tom Browne "Funkin for Jamaica" and Crusaders "Streetlife"... Two shows they did in the Roxy. We were the only whities in lousy clothes, surrounded by fancy dressed black people in suits ;-) Despite the fact that we were robbed (we rented a 67 Mustang for some days), it was one of the greatest days ever in LA. So many concerts of such a high quality. And i bought my first Rufus record there for only one dollar: "Masterjam". Best investment ever.
