Dealing with a chalazion for a year, I didn't think much of it until a red bump and soreness appeared on Jan 10, 2024. Visited the doctor, got drops and antibiotics, pain subsided in a week. Had chalazion surgery on Feb 5th, 2024, for 3 small bumps. No pain post-surgery, doc advised removing covers after 4 hours, gave a 5-day medical leave, painkillers, and eye drops. Hoping for a smooth recovery within a week. Fingers crossed for a quick healing process!"

Thank you for this information. I’ve been dealing with this issue for about 3 weeks now. However it recently drained and for the most part has gone down. I don’t feel the large bump anymore and I’m still a few days into it healing. I did the warm compress several times a day and even tried the ACV route that I found here on KZbin. Last week I was so fed up that I did the compress as warm as I could stand it for 30 minutes at a time. The next day my eye was itching and I rubbed it vigorously forgetting about the bump. Well immediately my eye was runny and I realized it finally burst. I’m so relieved and wanted to leave a comment because I did not want to have the medical procedure done. I was consistent with the compresses and that worked for me.

I've had styes and a chalazion last year. It took three months, but it went away. I used moist-heat eye mask and an ointment called PRID. I got another chalazion this year and it swelled up quickly and painfully. Nothing really worked. I was just dealing with it and avoiding people. I researched (in desperation) what causes chalazion and basically all eye problems stem from Vitamin A deficiency. I immediately began eating better and taking a multivitamin. I also did all the whacky remedies in a last-ditch effort. Eyelash scrub with tea tea oil and heat. Nothing worked except the hot salt water rinses and dabbing castor oil. I started both of those and the very next day it was smaller and less red. It improved every day! Use hot water as hot as you can stand, not room temp, and good natural salt (I used Pink Himalayan) and used a shot glass to soak my eye for about 60-90 seconds and blinking vigorously. It's been five days and it's gone! I am commenting to videos to help other people. Ultimately, I believe the Vit. A must have helped tbe most. Happy healing, everyone!!!

Thank you for sharing your experience. Grateful that you found a solution that worked! I have had a struggle with my eye. Oil splashed in my eye and caused a sty and then a horrible infection. That resolved with antibiotics but now I have a red hot chalazion on my upper lid - so large that it distorts my vision. I am going to follow your treatment plan and see if it works well for me. How many times per day did you use the salt water? Thank you! ***Update - the hot salt water rinsing is working well. As the OP said, results the first day - much less red, the pain was nearly gone, and the swelling had decreased, albeit slightly. Now on week two of this process and I am thrilled with the progress. No pain at all, minimal redness & virtually no swelling other than the chaplain itself. Thank you so very much for posting your story!

Also, did a self-diagnosis and knew it was not a allergies or stye. It’s indeed a chalazion or some kind of oil blockage pimple/cyst under my left eyebrow line. I thought at first it was a pimple as I had one a few months ago and it went away after 2-3 days, I had no irritation or swelling. But this new one popped up 2 days ago and no irritation/swelling until last night. My left eye started to feel heavy and started to swell up fast, I was shocked cuz I never experienced it. I called out/sick from work today because I don’t want my co-workers to think I have pink eye or a contagious eye infection. I did use a warm wash cloth which helped it a little bit, but I prefer a legit warm compressor that I can microwave and reuse. I also got some eyelid/lash cleaner or wipes as well. Hopefully, the swelling will go down soon. If it gets worse, I’ll definitely go to the doctor to see what their diagnosis and treatment for it. I really do not want to have it surgically removed cuz I don’t have the money for that even with health insurance. 😆😆

I just had a Chalazion removed last week. Eyelid is still puffy and seems like it’s holding water. My surgeon never even gave me an eyepatch. When I first left the office, it was not swollen but the next day it was puffy again, and has remained puffy for going on 11 days now. My recommendation is to definitely get a ride Nobody in the medical office encouraged me to have a ride to pick me up and drive me home. My eye was definitely bothering me to the point where I did not feel safe. Driving home. From my research, it looks like I have Ptosis as my eyelid is droopy still. It does not match the other one. Prior to surgery, This was ongoing for 3 months from a blocked gland. I still feel it’s clogged somehow even after surgery. Not sure if it was from when I touched my eye with some bacteria on accident or possible face or eye creams with retinoids I heard. My eye blew up got very swollen. Used every home remedy such as tea tree, turmeric, tons of antivirals like oregano oil and garlic and was also prescribed steroid drops and antibiotic doxycycline. I’m wondering how to clean the lid if it’s still clogged if it’s a gland. I dunno but wish my eye would go back to normal. Might seek out a steroid drop for my eyelid. Will post video eventually on my experience with this. On further inspection it definitely looks like ptosis as it’s only my left upper eyelid. It’s so embarrassing and I’m getting so frustrated and close to the edge. Can’t take much more. I wonder if it was from the retinoid creams, because personally, I feel like it is droopy from still holding a Adema and swelling. Somehow it is holding more water and or not properly draining. I also wonder if it is allergic, maybe it is my memory foam mattress that I got recently.perhaps it was from an infection from touching my eye. My honest thought is maybe I got it by touching it after sexual intercourse with my gf as she found out she had a uti shortly after I got my blepharitis. Thanks for any input. I’m hoping to get a kenalog injection and wish I would’ve did it originally rather then cuttreage incision. This is been by far the most frustrating and embarrassing thing of my life. I also fractured my hand a few years ago and I thought that chronic pain made me depressed. This is really getting to me.

A very useful video. It is a small medical problem that requires, first of all, a lot of patience! I would like to add: 1) You can't know now, but it was possible that by waiting another 2 - 6 months it would have disappeared by itself, without risking the side effects of the steroid injection (and there are quite a few!). Statistics regarding self-healing go up to 12 months and even more! 2) You should have mentioned that the recurrence of the chalazion is possible also due to a weak immune system, so in this regard a treatment to improve immunity is indicated.
@dr.lindsaymarie Жыл бұрын

When I finally went to eye Dr. they set me up with their surgical center 3 months out with the theory that if it had resolved fine, if not. inject or surgery. Of course, it did not resolve. When I got to the surgery the Dr immediately ruled out injection and went right to surgery. The surgery was cake.. Easy peasy. Took 5 mins. Since that time my left eye has had zero problems.. Meanwhile my right eye has had minor flare for the past two years and now (since 4/1) I have a huge chalazion on my right eye. It is so large that it is pressing hard on my eye. Sorry to hear you still have a bump. It could be due to a couple of reasons. 1. Not all of the Chalazion was removed. 2. It became inflamed again. 3. You formed a small amount of scar tissue already. It might resolve with time and you could still try applying warm compresses or you could try following up with another eye doctor to get a second opinion. Maybe they would do the steroid injection for you and that might resolve it. Also, if you watched to the end of my video I discussed another treatment with IPL which might also be an option for you to look into. Good luck 🙏🏼

So I continued with hot compresses and finally I noticed the bump on my right upper eyelid started to move down. Finally one morning I saw lots of pus which drained. However it did not seem fully over so I tried a solution with apple cider vinegar. After few days more pus came out and finally the chalazion fully disappeared. Now unfortunately I got another chalazion on my lower left eyelid. It’s much smaller than the first one. I’m trying again with tobradex and apple cider vinegar. I hope it will work. Will update you in few days.. But this whole situation is so annoying… UPDATE 26.03.2024: today the bump is much smaller but the skin still reddish. After I use the ACV it tends to swell and get red but few hours after it gets better. Will see again in the next days. UPDATE 29.03.2024: chalazion disappeared and the skin is not red anymore although the skin color is slightly whiter.

I got tired of mine after probably 2 months... What I did was hold a hot towel over the eye for 25 or so minutes all in all. Then I sterilized a thin comb, strecthed the eye to one side so I could see the lump over the eyelid more clearly. I then just pushed the backside of the comb hard over the lump and most of it drained in the corner of the eye. There was some kind of fluid mixed with a small amount of blood that came out. The small lump on the eyelid itself didn't go awa though and it's partly still there after 3 months. I started getting these problems out of virtually nowhere maybe 5 years ago.

Hii Dr. Marie! I was also suffering from chalazion from last 3 months! But just 4-5 days ago my chalazion bursted on its own while I was doing my regular hot compression. At the very first, chalazion was present in the middle of the eye but at the time of bursting , all it's stuff came down really close to my eyelid. So you know now i feel that my chalazion drained properly, but still I can feel even can see a small (quite small) bump at this place from where my chalazion drained out! So i want to know what to expect after a chalazion get drained out? What are the stages i will go through while it's recovery! When will my eye get to look completely normal? :(
@dr.lindsaymarie10 ай бұрын
Hi, that’s good you got it to drain on its own! The small bump that is remaining may be a small remnant of the oil gland still blocked a bit. I would continue doing the warm compresses and hopefully eventually it resolves. If not, you could always follow up with an eye doctor to see what they recommend. 🙏🏼

But something that eorked for me was like using hot water directly from the faucet snf putting it on my eye do it a few times a day also im currently using castor oil on it and some turmeric ( my mom said that this will take out the pus??? desi mom remedies) SO I DID THAT AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED RN THERE WAS LIKE WHITE LAYER ON THR CHALAZION like maybe it came out from it so my took a tissue and gently pressed on it now this did hurt a lil like a pinch but there were a few openings and some fluid came out from it and the whitish skin layer thing was also removed it was like a coating or something on the chalazion so yeah after this its gotten a little smaller so definitely use turmeric and castor oil. ive applied some ointment that thr doc gave me to protect/give coverage to it since that coating thing came off but def going to thr doc. this is my experience its still there so pray for me

Thanks for sharing your story mine is a little bit more scary😬 I developed chalazion in june 2024 during my cousins wedding which I couldn't attend with this chalazion on my eyelid I tried to cover it with some eye makeup which made my chalazion worse and the pus inside it spread in my whole eye. I went to the eye doc and he prescribed me the antibiotics systemic and local both which I took but didn't help. I applied all kind of OTC eye drops and ointments but didn't work. I waited for 3 months for it to go away Then I starting applying warm compresses daily for 4 times, sometimes so hot out of frustration that there are burn marks over my eyelid finally it started to go away in November and 2 days back its gone completely but my eyelid skin has become saggy. Applying Aloe vera and Vaseline over it and hoping to get my Normal eye back soon.

Hello docter, I had LASIK surgery two years ago, and I've had a chalazion on my lower eyelid for about a year. I've tried various home remedies for it but nothing seems to work. It's been quite frustrating for me because I'm only 22 years old, and I feel like it affects the appearance of my eye. My eye looks a bit swollen because of it, and it's been causing me distress. Recently, I noticed another chalazion on my other eyelid this time on the lower part. I believe this might be related to the LASIK surgery because my eyes have become more sensitive since then. I'm worried about getting surgery for these chalazions, especially because of the sensitivity of my eyes after LASIK. I've seen my eye doctor three times, and each time she's advised against surgery, saying it's not severe enough. She's only given me ointment for it. I'm not sure what to do considering my eyes' condition and the presence of chalazions in both eyes. Can I safely have surgery for both eyes? NOTE:my eye doc didn't know about my lasik
@dr.lindsaymarie Жыл бұрын
Good questions! I know dry eyes can be a side effect of Lasik eye surgery. I am not sure if the eyelids are affected or more so the actual eyeball in that case. For your concern about the chalazions, my best advice would be to check with a different eye doctor to see what their thoughts would be. As I mentioned in the video every eye doctor has a different threshold for when they do procedures. You might find one that is more willing to do it for you if that’s what you want. Good luck!

That being said, I'm using a steam inhaler combined with eye massage + castor oil in hopes to open the plugged oil ducts. Hi Doc, I would recommend you to do an MGD eyelid expression. In my clinic in the Philippines we do the NICE technique in removing stubborn chalazions. Nice stands for non-incsional chalazion expression. Kind of like a Meibomian gland recanalization that involves application of reusable and disposable differential probes to cannulate the meibomian gland ducts thereby removing the obstruction and facilitating the release of meibum. No scars and needles! 😉

I know it can be discouraging to have this on your eyelid, and even painful if it is really red and inflamed. In the video I pretty much went over all possible options for conservative treatment. A few things I didn’t mention in the video would include cutting out all sugar in your diet as sugar is very inflammatory. You can also take an anti-inflammatory supplement such as turmeric and see if that helps. If you have tried all of those options and they are not helping, the only other way to get rid of it is to have a procedure done like mentioned in the video. Make an appointment with your eye doctor. You might want to call them first to see if they do both procedures before going so that you don’t happen to waste your time/money. Good luck! 🙏🏼

@dr.lindsaymarie Жыл бұрын
Good question. The tissue under the eyelid is slightly different than on the outer surface of the eyelid but if you have a history of keloid, it is possible to form a keloid from any incision in the skin. I would recommend a in-depth discussion with your eye doctor about this to weigh the risks and the benefits. In this case, steroid injection may be a safer option for you to avoid keloid formation. 🙏🏼

Your story was exactly like mine. So it really resonated. I,m also a doctor (GP). Except that I did not get a steroid injection. I live in Oslo/ Norway. Male healthy, 38 years old. Did a ton of research and visited three eye doctors before I got good help. There is not alot of expertise in this area. IPL works, but you will need to have multiple sessions, with gland expression to see the quality of your meibum, and if it gets any better. My quality improved alot. Do at least four sessions. Each session builds upon the last one. It is like an acumulate effect. It is pricey, but well worth it. At least for me. There is newer research that will back this up. I do recommend to get your eyes checked for demodex. If you have any signs, do six weeks with tea tree oil wipes. My eye doctor was very concerned with demodex and his experience is that they do alot of harm. Research will also back this up. I had alot of demodex. Continue with heat mask two/three times a week and eyelid hygiene (not baby shampoo). Eat alot of fish and take omega 3 supplements. Have good blinking habits. These are habits that will keep your MDG i check and not get you any more Chalazions. My eye doctor said that the four main causes for MDG in the modern western world are demedox, botox, excessive screen time and acutane use for acne. Best of luck to you and keep us posted how things are going :)
