I think I can speak for everyone who has done a marathon but is yet to do an Ironman...bloody well done mate! Impressive.

Totally agree, a marathon is a bloody long day for most of us. I can't imagine the force of character it takes to run one AFTER swimming 4k and biking 180k? Hats off to ALL finishers 👍

You don't have to apologise or rationalize your time at all! Even doing an Ironman no matter how "fast" the course is, is an amazing achievement. Way to go man!

Taren I am beyond impressed. To go out on your first attempt and to execute it so perfectly is nothing short of Amazing. After 10 years of triathlon and 4 Ironman races, I’ve yet to nail a good Ironman and as I approach 50 the hopes of a sub 10hr IM are slipping away. Well done!!! You should be proud. (Oh on a side note after a couple months with the Oura I do agree that it records me awake way too much 😂)

you crushed that race, well done and being the Type A people we are. I love how you broke down the nutrition and training for Challenge Roth. I hope to get into that race soon.

Thanks for your inspiration, Taren. Just started competing in Olympic distances last year. First mid distance done. Today I caught a slot for Roth 2020 :) Its getting seriously serious. Keep on the great videos! Cheers, Tom from Munich.

Loved the race info but no one should have to justify why a sub 10 hour 140.6 is “legit”. Very well done. If anyone has something negative to say ban hammer em.

Excellent review of your race Taren. We all benefit from your detail account of the race and previous preparations. I did my first Ironman last year and learnt plenty from others telling me how their day went. Thank you and a big congratulations!!! Looking forward to what’s next...

Taren, this is amazing! Two days ago i completed my first 113k. I've had just four months of training - and it all went really well! 6 months ago i switched to low carb diet, feel great with lots of energy every day. And i had very similar experience as far as half iron distance is concerned: easy swim, well paced bike (plenty of nutrition: self made energy bars and gels) and the run which was 60% comfortable, than reasonably hard at the end. But absolutely nothing distressful - it felt great! My heart rate was the same during swim-bike-run and the pace was consistent! And overal i did better than i expected myself to do. I believe this is due to low carb diet, which really works.

I think if anyone says “you did it that fast because it is a fast course” needs to shove off and move onto. Great Job Taren! Such an inspiration. I remember the video that you said when you first started running you would only run one house lot, then walk three. Amazing progress from where you started. Always remember that!

Taren, you have certainly changed your tune about running. I can direct you to You Tube videos you have broadcast where you claimed that one can win an ironman on 3 runs per week... I cringed at those videos of yours, yet I have loved every other one else you have posted. Just because you love biking does not mean that running is not important. Embrace the run, I'm glad you have... Cheers and thanks for everything that you do for the triathlon community.

Been waiting all week for this video. Was hitting refresh on my browser every few minutes to follow your times. I was also blown away by your time. Great effort! Your videos over the last year inspired me to sign up for my first sprint tri August 4th. At one point 3 years ago I was 372 pounds. I’ve done a lot of work but run/bike/swim was a big part of it. Been following your journey for well over a year and very happy for you. My aspiration is to do destination half Ironmans and take the family. Loved seeing your trips to coeur d’alene, South Africa, and Puerto Rico. I now am putting together a bucket list of half Ironmans to do. That might be a good video!

Very impressive. One thing I found very interesting was your marathon time given that you say you have a 19 minute 5k. Either you ran at a very high percentage of your threshold pace or you were in more like 18 minute 5k shape for Roth. Any ideas which it was? Have you done any 5k/10k time trials in the last year?

Everyone is salty during their first Ironman. The best words I read somewhere online was that no one does their 1st Ironman on a good nights sleep. Personally that was true. I had my Saturday late afternoon pasta meal and a light sandwich and salad at 9pm (standard day before a 70,3 stuff) and then went to bed. I was awake until after 1am for a 4am wake up.

How does a race let you start the run when they have no record of you throughout the whole bike portion? Someone I know got a DNF because there was no way to prove he had done the bike portion of the race if there was no record of it. Just curious.
