With regards to slowing the increasing size of a backlog, I tell myself I need to finish 5 games (of around 10 to 20 hours in length) or 2 longer games (like RPGs or JRPGs with dozens of hours in length). This way the backlog is always decreasing in size. If only I stuck to my on rules

The two biggest impacts on my backlog were drastically reducing my time on multiplayer or live service games and never buying games just because of a sale. I didn't realize how much time I spent playing multiplayer "comfort food games" like Splatoon and Fortnite that could have been put toward completing past games. Another rule that may be controversial is not playing most DLCs, and definitely no 100%ing games. Main campaign completion only. Playing every single DLC for every game makes them all much longer. At some point you have to make the decision to focus on either quantity (single player finish as many games as possible,) or completion (Spending 100s of hours checklisting everything in a single game)

This year i decided to start working on my backlog finally. I had bought a ton of games that i hadnt even touched and a ton of games i just hadnt beaten. I put every single game in a numbered list, went to google random number generator and whatever number i get i play and beat that game. Ive beaten 20 games so far this year in my backlog, some of them being new favorites.

I'm a little bit different. I buy a game and I don't stop until I beat it whether I'm enjoying it or not. I have to finish it. But I keep buying new games. In a pile up and it takes me a while to get to know. I usually go by the shorter games. First and then the ones that are more likely to get spoiled second than the rest randomly.😅 The most important way to get through your backlog is. Don't play games you've already played already and play games consistently at least once every other day

6:39 'the game isn't going anywhere, you'll still be able to play it later on.' That might not be the case for every game, some games do just straight up get deleted and removed for various reasons. For example, I really wanted to play P.T. when it came out on the PS4, but I only had a PS3 and no way to play it anywhere, and when I finally got myself a PS4 years later, the game has been removed from the PlayStation Store, the ONLY place you could play it. P.T. is a very specific example I know, but this happens with other games too

I mainly use HowlongtoBeat for my backlogging, not a big fan of what I have seen of the Backlogged community. My big delimma is dropping any game, I tend to select all the games I am going to play for the month and if I dislike any game, it throws the entire order out of wack.

I try to only buy games I want when they're on sale with rare exceptions. Then I debate with myself if I'm in the mood to play it now and if I'm not then I'll wait for another sale. Right now I'm talking myself out of the etrian odyssey collection because I have most of them on 3ds. I also pre-ordered a couple games releasing this week.

At the risk of sounding pessimistic, not all games will be there when you want to buy them. Especially concerning titles that are getting older: backward compatibility diminishes and licenses/contracts end. This results in games becoming difficult to find or just outright disappearing.
@J0k3rie
@J0k3rie 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's true as well. With most older games skyrocketing in value or get taken off of their respective gaming spaces, I can see why think that.

The best thing you can do to tackle a backlog is to STOP buying games. The games aren't going anywhere. They'll be available for decades. Play the games you have and don't buy anything new until you're done. And by the time you get around to buying said games they'll probably either be on sale or on PLUS, both of which will save you money. The whole "I gotta have it first day" brainwashing (and IT IS brainwashing) is contributing to everyone's backlog problem. That and buying the same shit COD and MADDEN games every year. What's wrong with you people? "The other games will be waiting". Yes. Exactly my point.
@J0k3rie
@J0k3rie 7 ай бұрын
True, I've started implementing this into my backlog completion.
@pyro2708
@pyro2708 11 ай бұрын
No, the only acceptable way to deal with backlog is not to have one, if you drop a game it means it wasn't good enough and you have no obligation of playing a game that brings you no joy, also don't buy a game that you have no intention of playing unless it's for collecting purposes, if you can't keep yourself from compulsive buying crap that you don't need then you have a problem and should get help. Playing video games should be fun, not a chore.

So what you're saying is that the easiest way to beat your backlog is to gaslight yourself into thinking you're a 5-year-old again. Got it.

Just don’t buy a new game if you don’t intend on playing it right away. Playing something else right? Then hold off from buying another one until you either finish it, or decide you have played it enough and are satisfied. Also, look through your “backlog” and be honest with yourself: are you really going to play all of them? You can usually cut it in half fairly easily.

And thats not even the only game that has that issue theres alot of other games that u just cant buy anymore like lego lord of the rings, mario 35, mario 3d all stars and up until i think 2 years ago scot pilgrim. so id say no if you think you might be interested in a game dont keep putting off buying it cus it can 100% be unavalable later. hell do i even need to mention pt
