CHALLENGERS - Movie Review Ft.

I LOVED every messy, complicated, toxic, co-dependent minute of this movie! Best film I've seen for the last few years! Nothing cookie cutter about it. Everything worked...cinematography, music (which IMO, for the most part was used to convey the emotions of the characters versus the actual spoken words), time jumps (like a tennis match). BRILLIANT!

The film's director, Luca Guadagnino, said that he imagines that the three main characters had a threesome after the film. Art and Patrick need Tashi to finally act on their feelings for each other because Art is less accepting of his bisexuality; Art and Patrick seem to toe around their sexual attraction towards one another. Patrick and Tashi obviously only work with Art because they need someone to balance out their fiery personalities and bring in more stability. Art and Tashi need Patrick because he brings passion into their marriage; That's precisely why Tashi kept cheating on Art with Patrick and why Art desperately wanted to retire. Art and Tashi were simply going through the motions in their marriage, Patrick adds the fun needed that makes life beautiful. *Basically, all three of these people will forever have intertwined lives and the more they try to avoid it, the more miserable they will be.* ♾
