Andy and the Served Team bring this week's Racket Rundown in the middle of the Madrid Open action. They discuss some of the results so far including Felix Auger-Aliassime's win over Casper Ruud, Madison Keys' win over Ons Jabeur, and more. Andy talks about Nadal's emotional farewell to Madrid and argues this might have been the best result for Rafa heading into Rome and Roland-Garros. Also, Social Sophie joins the show to bring us her review of the newest tennis movie: Challengers.

Andy and podcast team. "Bweh" is Rublevs grunt on the forehand. Everybody in the youtube tennis community knows this. His Bweh grunt is as famous as Rublev himself is. It's used in admiration I feel.

As a listener, I understand that Andy speaks as Andy speaks - and he’s hilarious. My personal preference is for bleeped versions, just because I find such coarse language not to be something I enjoy listening to. I think grunt bleeps would be hilarious! I’m old, don’t have a car or kids around, so I will listen regardless.

As someone who likes all tennis nerdom conversations, really enjoyed hearing the conversation on racquet customization/adjustments and how a pro goes about this process. I was thinking as the segment went on about what ever came about a tweet Andy made regarding him asking for racquet recommendations since he didn't want to keep using his old Babolats, but I guess we'll hear soon...if not please let us hear soon :) And while I don't love Wilson's paint, they do make some fine racquets, I enjoy playing the most with an old 6.1 95. Also, recently saw Kim represent Babolat on a tennis store interview talking about Pure Drives, and the name of Luca Appino was mentioned (And then promply showed up in the comments) and he mentioned how besides providing Kim w a racquet, he also hooked up Wozniaki, a Mallorcan kid and also an American kid who's a great podcaster now. If not awkward because of history we don't know, he might make a good guest? Re: Midweek podcast episode. YES. However, like, when does it get too grueling for you guys? YT is notorious for looping you in to the algorigthm's demands and out goes a chewed up, burn out creator. Maybe pick a few tournaments per year that you'd do this and just crush it, or include them if something big is happening (like you know the GOAT of Clay playing his last home tournament). Do take a sustainable schedule, and I'm guessing y'all have vacation plans/time off you'd like to make good on.

A regular Q&A session segment would greatly improve (the already great) content quality of the podcast. It would improve the overall interaction with the audience and the conversation could naturally be steered towards topics the audience is interested in. Not to mention how cool it would be to have your questioned answered by Andy Roddick :)

I think we're learning producer Mike isn't an inside baseball guy (sorry, mixed metaphor) for tennis. Lah-ver cup and Rublev BWEH miss. IMO it's nice to have a semi outsider involved in the pod for a fresher perspective that's still informed.

Challengers begins (in a sense) at the **2006 junior US Open - not in ‘2003 /2004’ as mentioned in the discussion. Andy, we see you in several USTA promotional posters and possibly in on one of televisions screening live action at the 2006 tournament. Dashi wins the 2006 junior tournament tournament but has already decided to go to college (- Stanford) and not turn professional. Art and Patrick have just won the US Open junior doubles tournament earlier that day and will play each other in the singles final the next day. On that evening before their singles final together, Art and Patrick pursue Dashi at her post-tournament celebration /party. Ultimately, she meets them at their hotel room later that night. This beings an intense threeway relationship that the actors describe as ‘codependent’. the final showdown between Art and Patrick takes place at New Rochelle in August .19 but we have flashbacks to two or three other weeks /years in addition to the 2006 junior tournament, which sets the scene for the entire film. i have watched the film a few times, being a tennis freak. (i used to train all day long, funnily enough back in 2006.) for the performances, i rated 8 out of 10. each of three lead actors is believable. for the writing, direction and cinematography, i rated the movie 2 out of 10. the actors somehow save the film but the writing is truly awful for so many of the scenes …. in my opinion.

i like a denser string pattern and have always gone 18 x 20. Luxilon Big Banger string and it was Timo .16 (- my absolute all-time favourite) but that is so hard to get now. apparently discontinued. : / i like how you say ‘condensed’, Andy. older players always say that i hit with a lot of spin but to my contemporaries i am ‘flat hitter’. perception is so different, according to your own style. i tried an older player’s gut string and i /hated/ it - so incredibly loose with none of the ‘bite’ that i am used to. i don’t know how anyone plays with gut and keeps the ball in the court ….

I prefer no bleeps. HOWEVER, if bleeps means more viewers/listeners, I can’t think of an objectively good reason to not use them. I wouldn’t be too concerned over 5 shmucks getting their feelings hurt over woke liberal bleeping. That aside, there are so many things you touch on that I can’t wait for deeper dives into. Racket customization, locker room dynamics, doubles(!) - just to name a few.

Thanks for another great podcast! Regarding the bleeping / no bleeping, what you can do (at least on YT) is to have a separate audio track with bleeps, "hijaking" a different language. @jameshoffmann, a popular youtuber that does coffee stuff, has separate audio tracks without him slurping coffee because it annoys some people. See the following video at 11:16, and how there are two audio tracks: plain "English", and "English (United States)": kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4PRoKGkbKqbe8U

I have seen comments that Keys has gone to a 16x19 H22 frame and dropped the Ultra Pro to lessen damage her shoulder. Can't find anything conclusive on that, though. Anybody out there who can provide more detail?
@rossgoosen7269
@rossgoosen7269 2 ай бұрын
Interesting given the Ultra Pro (H19) is softer - maybe the extra "free" power from the H22 means she doesn't have to swing out of her shoes every time, and lessons the strain on the shoulder.

Your question about why not have two versions, one explicit and the other non-explicit, comes down to infrastructure, bandwidth, media storage, programming, and monthly hosting costs. It would require double the storage cost for every piece of media content that require both versions. It would require every platform that supported it to have their programmers write new code that touches the entire workflow of their system…not cheap. All client apps would require updates with new code and UI to allow users to toggle between versions. Companies would need to recoup all of this money to implement this feature, I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

Stay in the fun lane. If people want to hear xanax commentary, they can just go to Tennis Channel. Better to carve out an audience as the Howard Stern of tennis - let the karens give the "violent eye-rolls" 🤣🤣(I think Davenport and Courier are the 2 smartest and best commentators on TC but they can be too serious). Tennis community needs irreverent humor and a little cussing - speaking of, would love to see Josh Berry as a guest on this pod - he slayed his impersonations of Medvedev and Kyrgios. I personally find violent outbursts in matches more disturbing than occasional, light hearted swearing on this pod.
