Well done on the move, do you guys have a plan on what amount of woods you want to keep and what to turn into pasture? And if so what was your process for this? Also for woods that you do keep will you help them grow so you have a suitable amount of wood?

The way our land is there are a handful of patches that could reasonably turned into pasture without bulldozing the lot of it. On those patches I would plan to leave anything big and healthy, especially hardwoods. I'd also cut away some competition from more desirable trees to get them growing better. Goats and pigs are good for helping iut with clearing. Then I just seed in behind I think next year I might add some lime to the equation as well. Ground here is pretty sour

Oh and for helping wood grow the thinning and whatnot will do that. As I harvest mature trees I would replace them with nut trees hopefully. Then when I've been dead 20 years Martin will be able to enjoy them haha

Sounds awesome, I know of pigs clearing abilities all too well. It will be intresting to see the development of pastures mixed with woodland.
