Having climbed two dozen mountains, I would advise one and all to do this. With that said: DO NOT go alone One gallon of water, per person, per day Ankle protection First aid kit Some food-energy bars? Start early, finish early (don't gamble with darkness) You can find strawberries and blueberries out in the forest, but they are tiny. LISTEN to the forest, especially heavy steps you are not making DO NOT use open flame. If you must smoke, pick up after yourself.

I love your hiking vlogs. I started hiking this year and it feel great. Clears my head from my stressful job. Unfortunately, thanks to my stressful job, I haven't made much progress yet. I haven't dared to tackle mountains yet and prefer to stay on nice, flat paths.

I did something similar and explored Mackinac Island on my 30th birthday. Activities like this are always good for doing things just for you, even though a 30th birthday doesn't necessarily have to be a big deal when compared to turning 29, 31, 37, etc. Great video, Nat!

Natigold HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Be proud and brave. Let me let you in on a secret. We have the greatest mountains and trails in the world in our state. The are full of ladies like you. solo to groups and every age and ability. I've been hiking for years...very standard stuff but like you said. I want to challenge myself - off trail where noone is paving the way for you. getting past that fear of the unknown. walking through it in joy and confidence. Its wonderful. You don't need a guide but it really helps in the beginning to have an experienced person help you gain that confidence. You want an adventure? hook up with a stranger and go deep into the sierra. Thats an adventure. The people (eastern side) are wonderful. Its something to discover. I'm always looking for someone to hike with....even if the solo's are kinda the best. Keep it up.

I havent done Baldy since the PCT, and it was super fun to watch this and remember how beautiful this hike is. Its a very, very unique place. One day i wanna make the drive out there again. I turned 30 almost a year ago (only a few more weeks until I'm 31 😭) and one of the best decisions I did on my 30th year was to do lots of hiking. I've done hikes in Colorado, Grand Teton, Canyonlands and Arches! Some of my favorite ones were always the ones that were spontaneous. Maybe next summer I'll dip my toes in backpacking. We'll see! If you haven't been to Grand Teton or Moab yet, highly recommend! The two trails that stood out to me the most were Cascade Canyon Trail in the Tetons, and Chesler Park Loop Trail in The Needles of Canyonlands.
