You have a couple of funny ideas about EV emissions, but yep, public transport is far better for the environment than private, and there was such an extensive network in France, would be great if it could be re-established. Where we go in near Dijon the buses are very infrequent so a car is necessary but there was a train line that’s mostly still there that could be reactivated. Uk so much of the old networks have been built over.

I really want an EV but don't see how it would be great environmentally considering I don't go far and I have a car that works... 4k a year... A bike on the other hand?

@@LostinFrance-bu5zw Obviously the initial cost is a major issue, but 2nd hand prices are coming down, and cheaper models on the horizon. If you focus on just the C02 emissions, the French grid is one of the lowest emissions grids in Europe, so you would offset the CO2 produced in its production in under the 12k km average for the European grid. No oil changes, oil filters etc either, so based on the number of miles a year you do will you offset it? With regen braking you almost eliminate brake dust pollution. Tyre wear is barely noticeably higher. And at the end of useful life (which will be longer than an ICE), assuming the battery isn’t reused in another application, it’s 98% recyclable, where as none if the petrol (which uses cobalt in its refinement) and oil you put in a ICE car is.
