It was found the ammonite went extinct because it birthed its babies directly into the sea to fend for themselves. Ammonites grew fast and reproduced fast and didn’t live a naturally long life. The nautilus however is the opposite. They lay eggs and those eggs take a year to mature, when it hatches the baby nautilus has a large hard shell. The nautilus lives up to 20 years, so all that devastation after the extinction event they were eventually able to continue reproducing. It is also found the nautilus occupies a large area of the world, rather being only native to one area. There were survivors from the ammonite linage, they are now cuttlefish and octopuses!

I would say that the small tentacles are a result of it being effective at obtaining small prey, rather than capturing larger creatures. Obviously if the animal is able to capture enough small prey, it's an effective predator, despite seeming innocent/feeble to us. You can view other videos, most fish don't seem to want to mess with them, so there is that.

Nautilus is a very ancient creature. They have been here since the Triassic time. About 230 million years ago. These are ancient relatives, long time before we crawled up on the beach. 🙂 Maybe their swimming technique could be a little 'refined' 😂, but their survival skills seems to be very good 🙂
