Watching you paint the coastal and landscapes scenes is so inspiring. You’re awesome at it you make a difficult practice, painting outside in the elements, look easy and fun thank you for sharing your painting adventures 🌊💦🎨👊🏻

Very sucessful. I love the colour shifts which are subtle when you look at the whole composition but close up they are quite interesting. Also i don’t miss the horizon line, there’s enough going on in the picture.

It’s always great to see how your painting progresses and then seeing the final result. And I feel a little bolder about getting out and painting as well.

Thanks Andrew! I think the larger canvas really helped. Maybe I'll go back and do a 30x30" of the same composition!

This is my favorite seascape demonstration so far. Exciting all the way through. The final picture really captures the roiling water, its chaos as it meets the rocks. Wonderful. gsw

If you are still near pescadero CA, and if you are truly interested in oil painting, my grandfather still lives there and has some unique in my opinion oil paintings my father did while I was a child living there. He did a good amount of scenic oil paintings but on old saw blades. My my grandfather has some still hanging in his garage where he himself created all different kinds of things from wood. You're for kids, yard decorations that had parts that would move with the wind, and so much more. I think some actual real canvas art by my dad is still there as well. You should check it out if interested. Only mentioned it because your artwork reminded me of my dad's

Wow. I love this painting. Next time, if you have time, let the view of the ocean and its sound be longer in your video at the end. You are so lucky to have that.

I liked the painting as it is, but when you mentioned that the horizon is missing, I started feeling that there's not enough air to breath. It was fine totally until you mentioned it, haha. Seems like it's actually really really good. And also I'm still amused by the way you give comments and be able to create at the same time. Looks like it became easier for you. I wonder if it seems challenging for you to paint sea without horizon or it's just you not preferring it? That's so interesting! Btw, must be exciting to say "I have INTERVIEW with my DAUGHTER, go check".😁 Thanks Mr Chamberlain!

Definitely a different composition for you Michael, but in my opinion, a total success! Beautiful painting. You really captured the energy of the scene--and I don't miss the horizon line one bit.

Watched the podcast yesterday. It’s refreshing to hear creatives talking about the process and nodding my head in agreement with everything said! The composition works on square format, and I think no horizon is a good idea for that format. Great painting.

Great video as always. One suggestion, we really can’t see the scene when you are painting it. Maybe you could cut away from your painting to the scene then back so we get the idea of it. I know you have a view of it at the end, and we can edges of it around the canvas but seeing scene, helps visualize what you are saying. Not sure how technically you can do that but I would find it helpful. Love your journey!

Great job getting some relief in the large dark value mass without chopping it up! You did this with great success using a variety of color, within a believable range, directional brush strokes, and just enough pockets of water in the foreground rocks. I think the profile of the edge of the rocks along the water's edge is fantastic! Marvelous to see and hear you apply your gut responses so quickly and fluidly...intuitive as well as using your experience and knowledge. Mission accomplished!

I think I used a mix of ultramarine and titanium white with a touch of burnt sienna. I sometimes add a touch of alizarin as well but I don't think I did in this particular mix.

great video, were you practicing a painting without horizon line or just no horizon in the background? I feel a painting that is without a "horizon line" line at eye level then to make a composition work you'll need the "point of view" line, kinda what things are you seeing the tops and backs of, and what are you not. Just my two cents :)

They're Levi's 501s. I think they're from the vintage collection. They were given to me 2 years ago by Levi's, whom my daughter was working with at the time. I've tried to find another pair but can't find them online or in the stores!
