I worked at Herschede, in starkville, Mississippi 12 years. One time on vacation, I went to Custer, South Dakota to see the Crazy Horse Monument, and in the home of the man, whop started the Crazy Horse Monument, there was a large Herschede Grandfather clock.

The ending tune with the narrator brought tears to my eyes...my grandparents love that chime on their Herschede...which I have inherited.

Brass and gold plating tarnish form oil on the hands and fingers. Herschel in their set up manuals stressed that gloves be used when assembling and adjusting the clock. I have a Hermle regulator which has never seen sight of a bare hand, and after many years of operating, the movement, dial, pendulum and weight still look brand new.

David Rakes i figure it was just for the making of the movie. But you can also buff off the prints. Only scene i noticed was setting the moon. I never wear gloves for that but am aware to avoid the edge of the dial.

Hentschel movements are either Hermle of Kieninger. Both are very reliable but both hang their tubes by wire instead of string and this causes vibrations to feedback into each other and the chime rack and the sound is not as clear. The Kieninger comes the closest to what Herschede made in appearance. Both current movements will give excellent service. Nobody makes a Dial (clock face)Like Herschede. Keep in mind too, Hentschel is just a cabinet maker.

The canterbury chimes in the middle of the video are different than the ones played by "the clock" at the end. Was one version phased out at some point?
