No one expects the Volvo. As much as I hate you guys had that much trouble, it definitely made for a good narrative. I've done a couple of LeMons and Champ (back when it was Chump) events and that was still some of the most fun I've had on four wheels. The breaking stuff part is not so fun, but arguably makes for better stories.

thank you. I'm in the decision process for a 200 tread wear tire - this is beyond helpful. Thank you! Maybe I can return the favor on the knock-back issue. GM cars (Corvette, GTO, Camaro - the GTO era cars), all can overheat their throwout bearing and suddenly you have no clutch. A couple pumps later, it's back - but I've had this same issue from all of the manufacturers (OEM and aftermarket). Most times the solution is get the hose away from heat or shield it from heat...
@randypobstofficial3 жыл бұрын
Hellooo, Aaron, thanks much for the advice, it's obviously driving me crazy. We will take a good, hard look at it. I wonder if it could be heat, too.

Do you have a way of monitoring fuel pressure as you're driving? What could be happening is your fuel pump is heating up under load and you're losing pressure. I especially see this in 80's era cars with in tank pumps that relied on the fuel to cool the pump. As the gasoline heats up under racing (I'm assuming you're using a return style fuel system) the pumps performance starts to decrease. This is representative of what you're seeing, pump gets hot, you pit, you tinker with something, splash in a little extra "cool" fuel go out it is better for a bit, then the problem returns as the pump heats up again. I could go on about specific heat of e10 vs MBTE enriched gasoline, pump heat curves and whatnot but in short if you're running an OE style pump for the car, see if you can find an aftermarket replacement that they claim will work with ethanol. (This isn't an anti-ethanol or ethanol breaking down items thing it has to do with the specific heat capacity of ethanol vs other gasoline blends at temperature).

Basic rule of racing. If the nose of another racer appears in your peripheral vision, that car has earned the right to tracing room. Leave a lane, a carwidth and six inches, to the edge of the racing surface.

RE71 wears like crazy. I found them way too squishy (like the old hoosier bias ply)... They don't punish the novice due to the huge plateau at the edge of grip, but not rewarding to drive on for me. We ran them last year and fully burned up a new set (which is ok, but they wear 2x as much as anything else). Won't run them again. Bring that Volvo to Houston - would like to see how we stack up with our LS400 Lexus

I expect to be driving several WRL races with a top team, as many Lucky Dog events as possible, including racing my own Flyin' Moose at the East Coast races, Charlotte and Carolina Mtr Park. Also, various ChampCar and AEr events when we can. I like PittRace because I have beloved family there. Be sure to follow on IG for clues. Thank you.

I know the downs. Had a decent track day, 19 ZO6 M7, then had the worst Autocross ever. When one is old, and you wait around in the S. Texas Sun for 6 hours before you run, and since you walked the track 6 hours before, the senility must have set in. Oh well can only improve.
