When your through using the splitter, You should always turn the gas off and let the engine run until it dies. The reason you are having to pull the plug an blow the gas out is because the float in the carb is bouncing around when you transport the splitter, letting the needle valve come off it’s seat allowing gas to free flow into the engine. Some of the gas will also drain past the rings and eventually overfill the crankcase diluting the oil which can destroy the engine. I would check the oil and if it’s overfull, drain and refill with new oil. Also even if you’re not going to transport the splitter, you should still shut the gas off, because those needle valves are famous for not seating and leaking. Happy splitting.

Thanks ALL ABOUT OUTDOORS, appreciated the walk through. Good point on moving machine while gas open...I flooded it and couldn’t figure out why...(DUH). Good tips and great demonstration. I got the same splitter because we have Tamarack and we get pretty big rounds...35-48”...but we do the big guys vertices...but the smaller ones we do horizontal...plus we use the cedar small rounds as kindling. Great work though...and like you my wife doesn’t mind working the splitter in the horizontal. Works very nice. The replacement for the hydraulic fluid filter was not easy to find...and seems like Champion is a bit behind on providing parts and maintenance products. But thanks for the training video!!! Merry Christmas

glad I could provide even the littlest bit of helpful information. I cheat and use the bobcat to lift rounds up onto the splitter that are too big 😆. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 🎅

Hey just so you know you have the hydro filter installed upside down, it's supposed to be facing the ground and hose end up. Spin it a half turn with a wrench...

That small yellow rack on the operator side of the splitter is mounted incorrectly, which can result in the wood being trapped between it and the wedge, which can result in the wedge being crammed into the "C" channel on the other side of the beam and bending it. The assemblers are mounting the racks upside down, which gives it the up curve, but it should be flipped so the rack is level with the beam. Home Depot had to replace my splitter as a result of the "C" channel and the rack being bent.

I’ve almost chopped my fingers off multiple times with those stupid triangle cutouts, where I’d be holding a log it would wedge apart, pushing my finger into on of those triangle cutouts and the wood pinching it in there. 100% of the time I’m wearing gloves so the gloves usually take the pinch but I have multiple pairs with the fingertips missing due to that. Wish they didn’t have the cutouts they’re just for the looks anyways.

Got mine a few days ago. Two oil filler plugs? Why? The inside oil filler plug is very hard to remove (hard to maneuver your hand in there). The little dipstick on the plug, I thought I was to break just trying to screw the plug back in. Put the initial engine oil via the front oil plug, but needed a bendable funnel not to spill the oil everywhere! However, was very please with it -processing wood. It is saving wear and tear on my body (I split by hand before). What took all day before, now takes a couple of hours.

Has anyone had their log splitter wedge stop moving? It's like the power from the engine doesn't get transferred to the hydraulic lines or piston / cylinder. I see air in the hydraulic lines. Is that the problem? Or maybe I need to adjust the return pressure nut?

Only thing I had an issue with, on mine was that gasket thats up by the control lever started leaking and did the same thing was moving slower. Obviously because it was leaking fluid out there and getting air. That sight glass should be totally full I thought? definitely doesn’t look like it unless you don’t have it level in the video I watched. Gotta be a leak somewhere

Yup same here everything on the air box is the exact same as yours. As for the unbranded engine. I’m telling you, you won’t be disappointed. I started mine up today for the first time in probably 3 months. Literally choke first pull fired right up. For an in house (likely Chinese) engine it’s actually a pretty good one. Mines probably 1 1/2-2 years old now and split I couldn’t even tell you how many cords so far. More than 20 for sure.

@@allaboutoutdoors5083 .... Yes , it's a nice log splitter but it does need an air filter . Any engine needs an air filter and without one the engine won't last. Any potential buyer needs to know that it only comes with an 11/16 piece of foam for an air filter.
