Catherine is sure capable to hold her own, there is not need for Tyson to go so much to the right to cover for her just to expose the left or make a mistake on that back hand dink.

I don't think your wrong! I have come to understand they do that to keep the stronger "forearm" in play but at a certain point you make your teammate to shy to ruin a "groove" youre perceived to be in . When playing in a doubles match I think it should be understood you'll have to use your back hand more. So you should be practicing for it not making it a team standard to keep 3/4 of the played court to one teammate

Tysons more of a banging singles player than a doubles master.

Tyson was way too aggressive and impatient. He should have trusted Parenteau's game.

This is absolutely brutal to watch. It's enormously fun to play, obviously, but it's not a spectator sport whatsoever.

I have watched pro level matches for a little now and they make it look so easy. I still see a lot of serves hitting the middle of the box - but many tutorials say hit serves deep - does it not matter that much at the highest level? Seems like a given they will make it to the kitchen line one way or another - so at lower levels the deep serves probably matter more ?? thoughts on that?
@paulmcdevitt2038 Жыл бұрын
You should serve deep, and it really pays dividends in singles. And it’s hard to get them all deep as even the Pros show. You don’t want to give your opponent an easy return but in Pro doubles they are more sure of their ability to drop and get to the net.

Where the serve is unlikely to create a distinct advantage, such as at this level where the opponent is very likely to return nearly every serve, the pros typically do not take a lot of high risk chances on their serves. Rather, you will generally see that they focus on good consistent serves and play the game on the court. Although the centre of the court is not "Deep", the required bounce causes the ball to be deeper in the court at the time it is hit on the return. I generally aim for the back 4 feet of the court, and look towards the backhand side of the player, except when I occasionally take a chance at a steep angle shallow serve that is very difficult to get to. Those don't always pay off as the chance of an error is much greater!

I agree with you alot of these are mid box. Maybe they would rather play it safe on the serve and get the point in the play? Not sure, but I think your spot on about how they should have been serving deeper on average. Those serves across the board were way to easy to return
@andrewgedman1214 Жыл бұрын
@@NIGHTNOTLOC I'm starting to think that at this level it's going to be won at the net, even if the serves were deeper... hmmm

New player here, trying to watch top play to get a better hang of the rules. I thought that you couldn't return a shot with your foot in the kitchen? Was wondering how Johns wasn't called on any of the shots from 8:17 to 8:22
@bryceturner6066 Жыл бұрын
You are not allowed to hit a ball out of the air while stepping in the kitchen. You are allowed to step in the kitchen and return a ball as long as it has bounced first. Every shot he hits while stepping in the kitchen has touched the ground before he hits it

Question, Ben Johns is amazing, but does it look like he sometimes kind of grabs the ball with the paddle and throws it in a different direction (versus hitting the ball in a different direction)? It must be legal. Just wondering if it's my eyes.
@ChukMeier Жыл бұрын
As long as it is a single hitting motion I think it's considered legal. Even double hits in a single motion are allowed.
