I got my primery and secondary education in Turkana at Katilu Primery and Katilu Boys Secondary School. Turkana may be dry but it has its own unique beauty. The Turkana culture, for example. These people are so kind such that when I was on my 2nd year at Katilu Boys, I decided to join the Christion Union Club that went above and beyond performing services in the Katilu village. It was between 1994-1999. We were the millenial class. It didn't mean much as the town was far away and only can only visit with a permission slip from the headmaster or his deputy. I loved that system. Why? Because I was a refugee from South Sudan and had to money to spend in town. I spent my times reading books, including the Bible which I read 4 times in one year. At the end of that year, I got drunk by the Holly Spirit and decided I would be a priest or a preacher. Did that spirit hold? Heck no. It was just a childhood dream and it eventually faded away..

Never estimate God, ask Moses at the age of 80...your time spent reading the bible 4 times in one year is well banked and you never know when God will start using that deposit... just pray and HE is faithful. ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD... you know the rest. God love you.

Also, Turkana was the people that welcomed the "Lost Boys of Sudan". We trekked hundreds of miles from Ethiopia to Kennya. They opened their hearts and gave us what is now known as Kakuma Refugee Camp. I and many of fellow lost boys were the first South Sudanese to set out feet in Kakuma. With the help of UNHCR, WFP, JRS, etc, my people settled and opportunities arose and here I'm in Canada. JRS made everything that is me possible. I try to pay it forward but life is not as easy as it seems, especially when you are black and ugly-looking. However, there is always a silver lining to all this. What? Most Canadians are nice and kind. I do fit in here in my #Newfoundland. That is Canada, eh?

If I were the president I’d prioritize the dry north of Kenya. Why? Developed countries in the global South have never relied on agriculture. It’s always oil and such like stuff. Israel and Egypt produce more food despite being dry. It’s all in our mindset. Imagine a train from Lodwar to Lamu, a vast irrigation scheme, a solar plant that’s even bigger than Garissa’s, zero tax for people building hotels and resorts and finally incentives to get more human capital. We can increase human capital by giving citizenship to all refugees as long as they’ve passed through Kenyan education and they’re given jobs to develop the counties.
