When artists usually try to avoid the word Lipsynching, here is Chan teaching Stays why is it so necessary to pre-record your vocals. Seriously it's totally understandable and every artist should make this clear. The only one who shout "Your faves' lipsynching" will be antis And the thing is even if its pre recorded isn't it the artist who sang and recorded it themselves. So ofc their vocals are good. It may not be the best vocal but they should not be treated like they are tone deaf

First of all, it's their voice, their body, their career, their choice. second, you could've said all of that without mentioning anyone or saying that they ABSOLUTELY NEED to explain it, just say something like "wow, his video was really useful. I've always wanted to know why they did it but no one explained it which is a tiny little bit weird to me but I guess they have their reason and I can understand and respect that, and now I know anyways so it's all good in the end."

It's kinda funny how if this really happened, then that means way less variety shows, solo schedules, less talking/laughing in general to preserve the throat, etc. If this happened, fans would be like "the company doesn't promote them properly, why don't the company let them appear in this show, etc." bc I certainly have seen this type of comments before. Like I follow this group (which I'm not going to name), and one member has been in a drama and variety shows before, but the fans said it's not enough. I personally think it would be better to have a backtrack and idols sing live on top of it. Isn't that how they do it with 2nd generation idols? Just because artists use pre-recordings doesn’t make them less of an artist or mean that they can’t sing.
@msb57752 жыл бұрын
The pre-recorded studio track can be useful for other reasons too. You have a copy of each member’s voice so if someone is gone for some reason then you can just play the back track during their part. Or when there are a lot of very difficult and high ad libs, there’s no point in the singer standing still to sing them live for so long, because nobody really cares. It’s better for the ad libs to be pre recorded so everyone can keep dancing and the spotlight is just on the person who’s singing the main line. Also, there are a lot of sound effects that sound better pre recorded like laughing and whispering.
@SianaGearz2 жыл бұрын
I can think of a group that has their singing member do a lighter choreo or just stand for their adlib. I think it's beautiful and I love it. Kind of more variety in the performance, feels less thrown together without regard for physicality and more deliberate. So yeah I care.

This is nonsensical. In that case people would understand playing the actual studio grade track because in reality the version he is describing is essentially a low quality studio version anyway. The main difference here is that the low quality version is intentionally deceptive alongside the deceptive microphones. And that's why people get upset. It's extremely deceptive.

usually idols will sing live only during certain events. such as concerts they will sing live and sometimes assisted with their own backing vocals, or like events that require them to sing live, there are several events in Korea like that. but there are also idols who always perform and sing live like mamamoo, because when they perform a lot of adlibs and some tunes they improve themselves.
@virginia95602 жыл бұрын
As for stray kids, I think they will indeed provide a few days of rest before performing live, and if they have to perform live, they should take care of their vocal cords by not shouting too much, or talking too much, like when they perform at a kingdom show, han must keeps himself from speaking too much to keep his vocal cords steady later on during performances.

@@virginia9560 mhm apropos Mamamoo. So of course they aren't always live. I know they try to be, and I love their vocals also live, but right here the man says it like it is. Then there is this section of Moomoo fandom who go like "rbw bad company, rbw not promote mmm good enough, rbw must send them to more shows, more variety and more interview" and like... Hello? Girls need a rest please. Just because a total abuse like grind to near death is the way of life in kpop doesn't mean it should be? Like it's ok to have doubts whether the company is doing the thing, but also maybe not just disparage them based on mere imagination. Recently there has been more stuff and rise in popularity but also the adlibs disappear? I know members are leaving, Wheein is now with queen Ailee and Ravi, Moonbyul also has a thing lined up seems like, but it's probably not because they're underworked with the grind. More like creative resources of the company are starting to get focused elsewhere so they are looking for creative outlets and options.

Artists, even if they CAN sing live while dancing, really shouldn't. It would just be bad for their voice/throat and overall energy levels. Also mental health, if they end up not sounding 100% perfect (which is not even possible while dancing/exhausted on stage). I'm totally happy with idols using pre-recordings while dancing, and only singing live when they're not dancing/exhausted. That's totally valid and does not at all take away from them being talented singers/dancers/performers, whatever their specialty is.

This is why Chan's one of the most respected idols and leaders. He's such a caring, honest and true person. Love the way he always talks good about every other artist.

I’m not a fan of skz and this was in my recommendations page but THIS IS SO IMPORTANT I really wish more people could understand how hard is it to be an idol, how hard is it to be ‚perfect‘ all the time. They are not pre-recording their singing to fool us or make low quality performance. The companies obviously won’t tell you how overworked and exhausted their artists can be during a comeback but they are and if they can do at least a little thing to make it easier, they will do it, idk who wouldn’t…

I will never find within myself the amount of patience and tolerance Chan has. Like I understand not all of us know the ins and outs of the industry but logically no one on this planet can work like a machine, an artist's voice is their wealth, without it they literally can't work. How some people fail to understand that not every performance has to or can or even should be live stuns me every time I see tweets about oh so and so didn't sing live and whatnot.

That's really interesting to see the point of view of an idol ! Fans tend to speak over idols' voices and assume many things.

I have a lot of respect for him for talking about it so openly. I am a musical performer myself and to keep your vocal chords in shape with 8 shows a week is hard enough to do on it's own, I don't want to imagine how much vocal fatigue they must have with all the other stuff on their schedule. A friend of mine showed me "live" footage of Ariana Grande concerts and hated it when I said that she wasn't really singing live. But it only is natural. They have a reputation to uphold and your voice is different everyday. You just have two options: You either do it like Michael Bublé and adjust the songs to how your voice feels on that particular day (like on some days he sings some notes lower than on some recordings or on days where his voice feels really well) or you prerecord the parts where you just know that you won't be able to do them when you don't feel well. And while I do prefer the first method because it really shows how well the artist knows his/her voice it is not always possible for everyone to do it that way, not because they wouldn't have the skill but because of the expectations their audience has. Jazz like Michael Bublé does is much more free as a genre so when he changes something no one minds, it is just a choice. But Ariana Grande and K Pop as well lives a lot from insane high notes, combined with dancing and everyone waits for them and would be super bummed if they wouldn't be done. So that is why the prerecorded vocals are needed. Not because they are not able to do them, I mean they still DID do them themselves just not in that exact moment, because artists are human and the voice is a very sensitive instrument that is different every day and they just have to ensure the same quality every day.

I’m not a Stay but I really appreciate Chan’s explanation. And a lot of Stays have been asking other fans to go watch this particular Vlive to understand why some artists pre-record their vocals. I have to share that my faves during their most recent comeback performed in every music show, attended live concerts, filmed YT content, besides their repackage they prepared for another comeback scheduled after 1 month, and even made time to attend their company’s fundraising event, oh and one member was even filming a reality show at the time. They had to start preparing for the stages at 3AM every day and then at night they would have to perform again at live concerts PLUS they had to find time to practice. They were posting good night on 💬 at 3 AM and then posting good morning at 6 AM. Dang right that’s gonna take a toll on any idol no matter how talented they are - they need proper rest too and they shouldn’t strain their voices and force themselves to sing and dance live every single time besides, they get paid very little to appear on music shows tbh. As long as they perform live on most of their songs during their concerts, it should be ok 👌 And no fan should ever expect any idol to sing live every single time, they’re not robots. 💚

I truly don't mind "lip-syncing" they work so hard and the fact they put in the effort to make a live recording is amazing. And when artists are on tour, they often have a consistent schedule so like when skz does concerts they sing completely live because they can. I've never really seen any artist full lip sync at a concert.

I really adore this man's capability of adressing the issue in such a wise and polite way while educating people at the same time. Like he didn't make excuses or lied, but he explains why they do that without bring down the jobs of idol. I dunno how much power this man hold in his company that he has the freedom to talk about it (this is my first time seeing JYP's artist can openly talk about it, I thought JYP was pretty strict)... but it really help a lot as a representative for other idols who didn't have the freedom to adress this issue.

I really admire Chan for being transparent with the awareness of knowing how much idols get picked apart for their singing, dancing, performance…practically everything! Heck even their actions are overanalyzed. But since he has a decades worth of experience (trainee for 7 years, leader for almost 4 years), he has a secure foundation in every element of entertainment, including music production. What a guy!!

He’s right. It’s not a matter of talent, it’s a matter of health. If you told an Olympic runner to do a marathon every day, they obviously couldn’t. Does that mean they’re not talented or that their Olympic medals should be taken away? Similarly a singer can’t use their voice all day every day and have it sound good, and it’s acceptable to lip sync the entire song or just the difficult notes. If you truly have an issue with idols not singing live then take it up with their companies rather than blaming them. It idols weren’t so overworked with back-to-back schedules then they wouldn’t be so tired and their voices wouldn’t be so strained.

Love that he explained this! Not a Stay, but props to him for talking about this in a straightforward manner bc it's a topic that idols get bashed on so often.

Some people doesn’t realise singing every day without break that will take toll of your vocals, as working musical theatre doing touring productions and performing 141 shows, 8 show a week include matinee we performers end up straining our vocal, even main singer voice get really exhausted and strained and they tend not to talk whole day just to save their voice for the performance. Just like Chan said having hectic schedule that involve a lot of talking it does strain their voices. Having pre record version isn’t wrong but as well they are still singing but might not sound like studio version only depending on their voice conditions. They’re not a robot, they’re singers and a human who entertain you all for the sake of an arts.

The one thing I disagree with what he said is not all singers are very very good at singing just because they are singers. There are so many singer who can't sing live even when they are in their best health
