Hashtag United are a one-of-a-kind football and esports club, based in Essex, England. Formed in 2016 by Spencer Owen as a group of mates playing exhibition games, we now play in the 7th tier of English football, the Isthmian League North. We won our league in our first season in non-league football and were looking good for a second promotion when the 2019/20 season was voided, but after the 2020/21 season went the same way with us top of the Essex Senior League, we were eventually awarded promotion based on PPG over the two part seasons. In 2023 we won the Isthmian League North and will now play in the Isthmian Premier!
We merged with AFC Basildon Women in summer 2020 and formed our women's team, Hashtag United FC Women, who play in the 3rd tier of women's football, the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division, after they also won their league in 2023. We also now have 40+ youth teams, reserve and development teams, an inclusive team and a walking football team...plus our esports team who play FIFA at the world's highest level. A lot of people talk about how we miss jermaine and I heavily agree. However, somebody that is not talked about enough is Eman Okunja, we miss him a lot in the midfield, this season the attack and the midfield don’t seem to be that connected

Eman dropped back down a division which is quite telling. He probably doesn't think he can do it at this level.

I feel like in general we are just lacking the diversity of options that were available last year, some from players leaving but also at this higher level devs is probably less likely to try and play someone slightly out of their position unless necessary, but hopefully players like Alfie, misha, cornish, suley, and sak can fulfill that ability to interchange seamlessly and get back to point where devs can’t decide who to take off.

I don't know what happened but the team has lost its killer instinct from last season. I don't know if it's confidence or losing some key players but it's just not the same hungry, aggressive side that won the league last season

Yeah, but it also is the fact that the teams that they are facing are better all around. I specially noticed it with the goalkeepers, they seem to be far better than on previous seasons. Its going to be a difficult season but we have to keep our heads up and make constant progress

@fitzek22 oh I know the teams are better but I'm talking specifically about what the tags are doing themselves. Last season a counterattack had 4 players barreling towards the goal. Players were running hard off the ball and TO the ball. When shots were there they were taken. So far this season I'm just not seeing that. It's like the team is playing not to lose as opposed to the playing to win

As an American I think the boys are not up to this league standard. There is a clear “step up” that we have not yet taken with this squad. If we had everyone from last year, maybe we’d be better, maybe. We are mid table at best this season.

PK is one of our best players but he's not a CAM. Need him and max cornfield as the double pivot then an actual creative midfielder with end product like Eman Okunja last season because we don't look threatening going forward but the effort is there still a tough team to beat but we wont win games if we dont score goals.

Attack really needs to be better, but also we're leaving so much space open in the midfield and around our box all the time. People are talking about better opponents and goalkeepers, but how many actual proper shots did we have on target here? Or in the last few weeks? If the balls not straight at the keeper, most of the time it's wide or high. If we seriously can't create 4 or 5 on target actual chances a game then idk what we're doing at this level. Something else to note from this game, I don't think we have a single player I'd have confidence in shooting like they did for their goal, maybe PK or Max? But even then not consistently, nor do we ever even get into positions to score like that anymore anyway.

I believe the gaffer and the coaching staff are doing their best but the boys can’t keep relying on crosses and long balls to beat quality opposition. We need more movement in the final third and more intricate passing. Sak Hassan, Pedro need to start popping up in pockets, driving and beating players (Jermains role last season). Tough luck though and we go again next time💪.

THIS, finally someone with the right assessment here. Seems like he is somewhat intimidated by duels and big blocks, naturally because of his size, and the size-difference that causes. The midfield lacks some presence, someone that can be strong and physical, and simultaneously good with the ball in his feet. Which is, in my professional opinion, one of the player profiles that's hardest to scout and attain. However, that sort of player if found, would absolutely slot straight in and massively improve Hashtag's midfield. In all fairness, a player with those capabilities would change any side though to be perfectly honest. Looking forward to the rest of the season, after a somewhat stable and consistent start. Not bad by any means as a start to the season in a more competitive and harder league, and I can truly only imagine the Tags improving going forwards! Good Luck.

I just don’t understand us. Every time we play the ball with no real intent from a wide area. Just for their defence to comeback and stop us. Spence called it in the highlights.
