Reeves could have at least means tested it at say just under minimum wage but she chose not to. 14 years Labour have had to come up with a plan and this was their best!

I am a pensioner that is just over the limit for pension credit. To me a rich pensioner is someone with multiple pensions that has more than £30k annual income. They don't need this payment, but any that are just above the limit are the ones who will realy suffer. Once you receive pension credit, you can than obtain discounts on Council tax, Water etc is this fair ?

On £91000 basic salary, perhaps MPs could have their heating allowances too, since theirs is over fifteen times greater than the one a pensioner used to get. Why does Ms. Reeves need to keep 15 times more warm at public expense than an old person in the first place???

If it was up to me I would cut the winter fuel payment in half and the other amount to get from making vat up from 20% to maybe 30 % for this year when make it down to 25% for two year when back to 20%

@kanedNunable sadly they are taking it from people who are on tiny pensions, though. The ones that are on state pensions get wfa still. But someone with a very small pension sadly will get their wfa removed. So as you know, everyone gets a state pension automatically. Then some have a private pension on top as well. I'm sure you know this, though. But some ppl will only have very, very tiny private pensions. So for example, some ppl on private pensions will get let's say 15 - 20 grand a year altogether with their state and private pension altogether. But their wfa will get removed for them now completely. It is only the very super poor pensions that will get wfa still. I'm talking about ppl who earn roughly 30-40 plus ground a year shouldn't get wfa. But some pensioners only get under 20 grand a year altogether with their private pension added together with their state pension together but they will sadly lose out. So that's why ppl are upset. Some pensioners are lucky they get a very big pension. But if you only worked in a low wage job all your life, your are not going to get a big private pension in retirement sadly.

If they want to save money, instead of taking the winter fuel payment off pensioner's. Maybe it would be a better idea to take the three and a half grand off the politicians which are claiming fuel allowance plus other claimed expenses, when they can well afford their own fuel costs, when they are well paid on £92 Gran a year. Plus people on pension credit get also linked benefits, such as rent and council tax allowances. When people on just a standard state pension, have also got to pay these costs with no help at all. Are worse off than people on pension credit

Not all pensioners need it as they can afford to pay their heating bills. I know a couple complaining about this cut go on three or four holidays a year. If they can afford to do that then they can afford their heating bills surely.

Can remember a TV documentary from years ago about pensioners going to Spain for the winter months. Bingo and wine and sun and no winter fuel bills. There was a bit of an outcry about them still getting their winter fuel payments that purchased the first few rounds of drinks. But they did 'pay into it' all their lives so OK for some.
