I have an early 90's up on 2 acres by the lake. I had a good metal roof put on it and it's still solid. I had intended to build a house but after a while I became disabled and for me and the wife we are pretty comfortable in it. I paid $7,000 cash and $1600 to have it moved 55 miles and blocked up. It's good to be debt free

@@CeruleanSky1111, it doesn't matter when it was built because mobile homes don't always do well in certain areas, especially Tornado Alley and Dixie Alley.
@calvinh.88827 ай бұрын
Here in Florida, (Not sure about other states) after Hurricane Andrew hit Florida in August of 1992, they made the mobile home manufacturers build mobile homes to a MUCH higher standard, which is basically the same standards as a wood-framed house, so all the ones built after that time are built much better. But as for mobile homes period, as long as you keep them climate-controlled and keep water out of them they'll last forever. So just like all houses, a good roof, siding, sealed windows, and dry plumbing are a must, and if you have those things you won't have much to worry about.

I wonder how much weight the floors can handle?? My real German bank barn house cost 242k in 2004 on 1 acre. That house is solid. The stone wall has held up to 2 speeding car crashes. House is solid. Can hold a ton of weight and floor isn't going anywhere. I would be afraid to make that a sewing studio. All the fabric and equipment would probably start to warp that floor.

Look into Steel Building kits. Stronger and cheaper. "That just sounds so expensive to me…and maybe I am wrong but I thought the appeal of a barndo was saving money and doing some work yourself. But I am getting the impression that more folks are in it for the aesthetic/function too. "I built a 24x60 steel building with a 10’ porch running down the 60’ side on a slab a few years back. If you can read blueprints you can contract the slab and shell yourself. I hired a concrete company and paid them $14,000 for it. The concrete was $7500 and the rest was the labor. Next I paid around $20,000 for the building. It’s rated to 175mph winds and I feel more secure in it than I do the house I live in. My dad and I wired it, framed out a 20x23’ room inside, had someone else do the drywall and then we installed a mini split AC in that room. I’d say with materials and AC and all I spent $45-50,000 doing that. If I’d wanted to live in it I’d have had to install 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and frame out more bedrooms. Id also have wanted to add more insulation and windows. I figure that would have been around $80,000 more, so $130,000. I’m not sure what it would be now, but if you can avoid paying others to do the work you’ll save more."
@mrstyle_673 ай бұрын
@@ohplease587 many people on here are making statements about the price and currently everything is much higher to build for one. Plus many aren’t qualified to be able to get permits do the work or even understand the many different types of construction that changes everything. For instance many homes aren’t using 2x8 or 2x6 construction unless it’s code. These have smooth ceilings and walls requiring nicer drywall finishing to be done. I would much rather have this sitting on a pored engineered wall/footings that offers a crawl space to access utilities. They’re required to have storm ties and engineered fasteners in that type of build. I don’t doubt that some people could possibly build a different price point but if it’s built apples to apples exactly I don’t think it’s possible. It’s all speculative and people shouldn’t be making such harsh claims and assumptions that they don’t have any clue about.

half a million... for a mobile home... I know they aren't built like they used to be, but they also aren't going to be a generational home either... That's wild! I mean it's gorgeous, but I could build one for that price. Edited to add***. This is 100% a trailer- it’s on wheels in 4 sections. It is way cheaper to build this style of barbdominium as it isn’t actually a barndo but a trailer shaped liked one. There is no workshop or garage. Last, I never said I didn’t like it. It’s beautiful for what it is. A trailer. It’ll last me and maybe one more generation…. if I baby it. However,it’s not a half a million dollar home. 🤷♂️

Same here! I 🩵 All the finishes, and the design but, I have lived in Multiple Mobile and 2 Modular Homes and my Senior Year of HS a plain ole Trailer in a nicer park. The Modular and Mobile Homes were on Land sights. None of them completely set up and Customized were as Expensive as some of the homes you are showing. The last 2 that my Mom and Stepdad ordered (1 in Louisiana and The 2nd in East Texas) set up on their land, were a 3rd of what some of these are running. Both of those homes have since had to have work done on them. We currently live on 4 acres that my Mom purchased up front and then she went and ordered 2 16x16 buildings to be delivered a few months apart. 1 for my Daughter and her kids and then 1 for Mom and I. The buildings were financed for 5 years (2 years ago) and Her Sister oversaw the work on finishing out the Inside of both homes. She let my daughter design the Interior layout to meet her needs as a single mother of 3 and then she designed mine and Mom's house to be 1 bedroom on each end with a bathroom. The Open concept Living Room and Kitchen in the middle. It took a little longer to get both houses done because of Materials Ordering delays in the delivery and we had 2 hard freezes. The total she spent on the Land and Materials for both homes came to Under $50,000. It just goes to show if you set your mind to it you don't have to spend the Vast Amounts of money a lot of these homes are running and you can still customize them, you just order the stuff you want from the Building Supply Company.

Oh! --MAY want to call it a three-sided fireplace. LOVE These! --and in the main floor powder room (with just the toilet and sink); sink is called "Farmhouse sink," I believe...when it has the "apron" across and down the front. Oh! ALSO LOVE the solid plank shelves in the pantry, instead of those cheap, old wire ones--that drop food down through. --AND love the barn door in front of the pantry and master bath. [--also love the make-up vanity in the master bath.] You rarely mention the 'bench' in the master shower; this is GREAT for shaving! --for a woman to be able to sit down and shave her legs!] Bench in the master closet may deserve mentioning for us "wobblies"...who need to sit down to put on our socks and shoes! ;-D

But I've been watching this video over and over several times, and I have decided that I'm going to have to call and check on certain things, I guess over the years that drywall is required part of house building, I don't think drywall will burn, but between the 2'x6' stud work they've done for the wall support, it's even better, l have lost interest in having anything painted, I would prefer everything to be wood-panelling ,I guess I'm just different ,but this barndo is the one I want, I think I'm going after the cozy cabin as well

@@conniebrown6909that’s nothing by todays standards This home would be on a crawl space No garage That porch would be on site Lots of cost above the cost of the modular part

And I have to be just as honest and transparent with everybody as well chance .... This is a nice home that is grossly overpriced at $600k + delivery and install + permits adding (this does not come furnished so bring your own appliances or add 💸💸) another 200k ( give or take) making this an 800k home all in.

I see people saying it cost 1/2 a million? I live in Florida & there are block style construction homes with granite or other stone counters that are much safer, more sturdy to the elements in the $300's! This home is way over priced for a modular home! It may look pretty but will it hold up to a hurricane? And because it is a modular home, insurance is higher & some insurances won't even cover it! You'd be better off taking that 1/2 million & invest in the same home built out of block & wood. Sorry, not trying to be negative but realistic. Plus, the home values aren't as stable as a regular or block home as far as investment & resale.
