Put this spell at the end of a haunted house in a carnival. When people run screaming out of your attraction, other people will be super curious and want to see what so scary.

When I first started playing with my main group, we ran a test one shot campaign to get used to each other. While walking through a forest we noticed a squirrel running away from something then got curious. The squirrel was being chased by this brown bear and before they noticed us I just Cause fear to make the bear run away for its life. We got a squirrel friend that day.

Thanks to Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, the Shadow Touched feat is a new way for other spellcasters to yoink this spell. Helps for making a Jonathan Crane build for Intelligence or Wisdom

I agree, honestly this is such an amazing spell to give the BBEG as well. It can really throw off a party, and make the encounter far more engaging! 😀

I like Cause Fear because there aren't a lot of other good disabling spells against bruiser mindless beasts -- and T1/early T2 which is also the tier where such creatures are a big threat. They either don't work at all (Hideous Laughter, Charm Person, Hold Person, Suggestion) or they target saves such critters are good at (Levitate, Blindness/Deafness). Your only real choices are Grease and Web, both of which have their problems with friendly fire.

Doesn't cause fear have the same save as Hideous Laughter, Charm person and Hold Person? The thing I like about cause fear is that it is is upcastable and has an enduring effect. Are there any other 1st level debuff spells that can do that?

Would love to cast fear and then cast command to make them approach the object of their fear. Would that make them even more scared?

Ah, that's a good spell... it was a cleric spell in 3e if I'm not mistaken Edit, apparently it was basically available to all spellcasters

The spell isn't really good for interrogation, Rules as written. A save every six seconds means the effect is optically going to dissipate before they finish a paragraph. ;)
